Location is great!!
This is a fabulous place to stay unless you need air conditioning Unit 202 on the courtyard. Only fans were provided. It is right in town with great restaurants and fabulous shops!! There was only one bathroom for a 2 bedroom unit. This is a fabulous place to stay unless you need air conditioning Unit 202 on the courtyard. Only fans were provided. Billy the Kid and loads of history
Among the reasons visitors come to Santa Fe is to experience the charm and character of this historic town. Otra Vez finds itself right in the cross-hairs and lays claim to having the 1880's county jail that housed the notorious Billy at its foundation. The plaque on the building says this piece of information was unearthed when excavation made this discovery. However, only a block away (208 W. Washington Street) there is another plaque commemorating that site as the location of the County Jail which held that notorious bad boy Billy. Find this plaque across Washington Street from Burro alley and the Lensic Performing Arts theater (gorgeous Spanish Revival architecture). Not in dispute between these locations is that Billy was housed in the basement and that the Jail has been demolished by 1906. Add to that puzzling bit of conflicting info the real possibility that during those 100+ years, the town probably redrew its street grid pattern. Billy the (elusive) Kid is still looming as large in legend as he was in life. Another historic plaque the Otra Vez building bears proudly gives the particulars on the present building's construction. In 1923, this building came to life as El Fidel Hotel. Today, the only El Fidel Hotel is miles and miles away in Las Vegas, NM. Fifty years later, the building was "acquired" by a banking institution and began life anew as the entity which it is today: a timeshare and vacation rental enterprise. Now, nearly 50 years after that last acquisition, it is holding up very nicely and houses 18 guest rooms of varying size and all uniquely appointed and decorated. The lower floor of the former hotel houses a coffee shop/bookstore, the Otra Vez offices, and a larger home decor shop. The guest rooms are on the 2nd and 3rd floors (9 rooms on each floor). The fire exit info sheet on the inside door gives an outline of a floorplan for each room; the sizes of the rooms are pretty much spelled out. The second floor has a generously sized terrace/patio with loads of seating and 2 propane barbeques; there is also direct access to some of the rooms. The third floor has units overlooking the terrace. A very small elevator services all three floors and one can get to any of the rooms either by direct access from the hallway or by walking through the terrace. It would be great fun to explore the basement and see where the foundation of the County Jail is rumored to be located. maybe someday that will be possible but just not now. The parking lot is very small and services the 18 guest rooms and the businesses on the first floor. In a perfect world, a guest would be able to park in that lot. A backup is to park in the parking sructire just across Water Street. There's no guarantees and the parking is on a first-come (and you better stay put) basis. There's also meter parking on Galisteo Street. Galisteo Street is a one-way street and access to the parking lot is on Water Street. The building for Otra Vez is on the corner of Galisteo and Water Street and the office for Otra Vez is accessed from the parking lot. When staying in a building of this age, quirkiness and peculiarities just make it all the more endearing. For one week, we followed the "directions" (and I use the term loosely) for operating the A/C. Hahaha. There is a reason why TWO floor fans are sitting in the front closet. The crank-out windows may or may not work properly but, on the bright side: this is as close to historic downtown as one can get! The galley style kitchen for room 203 is not what is shown on the Otra Vez website. We believe it belongs to one of the other rooms. Our room was across from the computer/book nook and overlooked Galisteo Street. No complaints. This was probably the best equipped kitchen we've ever experienced in all of timeshare heaven (or sometimes hell). Excellent. The rest of the unit was so nicely done with the wood flooring, period pieces, well-maintained furnishings, and loads of fluffy towels. Trash removal and towel replenishment will take place whenever the service request is hung on the knob. What a lovely property! It is a "perfect ten" on the location spectrum. Excellent experience! In the core
An excellent location with great amenities a short stroll from the plaza. It is nice to have a place to stay that is more home like when traveling, and these units even have a fireplace stocked with piñon pine for a merry evening respite. Condo in town with Santa Fe charm
We stayed in unit 205 which is 1 separate bedroom, full kitchen, and fire place supplied with wood. We walked everywhere. We paid for maid service mid week $32 (well worth it). Staff is friendly & helpful. We will stay again. We stayed in unit 205 which is 1 separate bedroom, full kitchen, and fire place supplied with wood. We walked everywhere.
