BEWARE OF SALES
The hotel itself is Ok. However, they have people that gather around the main restaurant from morning to afternoon that will hound you every time you pass by to sign up for their vacation program. If they ask you if you have a VISA or Mastercard, DO NOT answer them and take off running. Better yet, don't make eye contact. The hotel itself is Ok. Beautiful kid-friendly place,The pools are clean and well maintained. The ocean is always warm and easy to enjoy .
It's a beautiful place that anybody would easily enjoy. The pools and the ocean are always warm. The landscape is relaxing, almost picture perfect. My 9 year old daughter enjoyed swimming in the ocean. It's a beautiful place that anybody would easily enjoy. The pools and the ocean are always warm. BEACH INFERNO
Beach Inferno This is to WARN those good souls looking to enjoy some time at this beach resort. I paid a high price for not believing previous reviews. Yes, this beach is beautiful; the pools and landscaping are kept pristine. BUT… it comes at a very high cost: -checkin: just like waiting to get your drivers license at the DMV experience (CNR for Salvadorans) 30 mins to 1+hour wait in a big government-looking room (not at all the hotel lobby reception one would expect) - now this is not the first wait of the experience… they’ve made you wait before… at the gate in a long line of cars as they only open for new reservations at 3pm… but then you loose 40 mins in this car line, 30 mins walking from remote parking to check in, 1 hour in the DMV-like check in and 15 mins or more trying to figure out where the room is. All in all, you’ve lost a good 2-3 hours of your stay in frustrating waits or exhausting walks. -The beginning of the Decameron culture: one is given one key to the room (Can i have 2 keys? NO) (Can I have a map of the premises to know where my room is? NO) (Is there a poster with a map on the wall so that I can take a photo? Yes, 3 blocks away by the cinema. But I don’t know where the cinema is because i don’t have a map…) - The setting: the property is approximately 10 blocks long (from my guess). Rooms and amenities are scattered throughout. - The COVID excuse: Only about 30% of amenities are open or available. No maps, no cinema, no children’s activities, no kayaks, no bicycles, no Internet in rooms (they tell you that there is wifi in their lobbies but when it doesn’t work at the lobby they tell you that “oh, IPhones don’t accept this network”, no coffee maker in room, no mini fridge either (they used to have), jacuzzi and spa services are closed, NO ceiling fans in the steamy hot buffet building (they have been removed. I feel terrible for the employees behind the hot buffet stations) NO TRAM…. Prepare to walk with your luggage for blocks and blocks (if you come with children, disabled or elderly relatives you just have to figure out how to get from point A to B… Management doesn’t care). There is only one pool with activities (loooong walks to get there), only one restaurant is open for breakfast and lunch, only 2 specialty restaurants open for diner (previously 4) making it very difficult to get a reservation in one of the two open specialty diner restaurants. The variety show only lasts 30 minutes; how does the virus make the show shrink from 1 hour to only 30 mins? - The meals: reservations are needed for everything. And you have to walk a long way to the only place where they give the tickets for breakfast and lunch. No tickets = no food in this hellish Decameron beach. The one and only place open for the buffet is hot and crowded. Servers seem to have been trained to become sloths when serving the food. The slower they serve the longer the lines. Most of the food is awful. It is a shame to waste so much food because it inedible. (A note that we were able to get tickets to the steakhouse and it was very good. This is because it is currently the slow rainy season and the property was not full) - Checkout: beach towels can only be requested and returned from one place (within the huge property). If these old towels are not returned before checkout you will be charged about $50/towel. So, to check out you have to shlep blocks and blocks in the sweltering heat or pouring rain to return them before checking out. Then another long walk with bags, babies and disabled relatives to a lobby. Then be ready for a long wait to checkout because there is only one staff behind the counter. Only to hear from an unsympathetic staff with a sarcastic grin (Irene Casuejra): “oh you need to return the control of the A/C. You can’t checkout without returning it”. “Are you kidding me? I’m dripping in perspiration from the long walk to return the beach towels and then soaking from walking in the rain from my room to the lobby. My bags are soaked! There’s no staff to help me or carts for my bags. And you are now telling me that I have to walk back to bring you the remote? The cleaning person is inside the room as we speak , please call her to confirm that the remote is in the room and I am not an AC remote thief.” - To the canned response given by Management to all negative reviews: “to verify your stay please use this link”… NO I will not waste my time any more. I am posting a photo of the newspaper of the day I stayed taken at the premises. This confirms I stayed at this awful place. - No assistance for disabled guests: one of my family members is on a wheel chair… I was charged (without my knowledge nor authorization $87 more for being placed in a building with elevators, this is because they can’t guarantee a room on the first floor). - Cost: they advertise deals… oh these are for members only… so this is what my hellish experience cost me: $100/guest for a total of $812 for 2 nights for 4 guests! Once you enter the Decameron hell you are forced to obey their awful rules and just accept them. Do they give you a discount because they are only offering 30% of the amenities… NO! Do they treat you better because you are paying top $…NO! - The good part: I am happy I am not there anymore and I can choose to go to places where they will treat me well and I will be able to appreciate this absolutely gorgeous country of El Salvador! Summer gateaway
It’s been over 9 years since I returned back to the resort. This time I came with my girlfriend and her daughter and we did enjoyed it even if it was on a Monday for one night. Check in took at least 20 mins bc now it’s in the convention room you have to come in so they can verify and give you the keys and make dinner & show . Food was basic with several items that were good and drinks were just soda , juice and coffee. Only 3 restaurants were available but were full . The only things that weren’t available were the massage and disco which wasn’t necessarily. Only two pools were open. The drinks weren’t that bad . Room was spacious and closed to the pool . What didn’t make sense was there was one hut that handed out towels , snack bar was like 10 min walk to the other side of the resort. Breakfast was good and close to our building . Beach is quiet during the morning. Parking wasn’t that far depending your building. Service was good and quick . It’s been over 9 years since I returned back to the resort. Not worth it
The place is over priced. be prepared to walk ! check in was a drag room was far from everything! The food sucks , the only good restaurant was La Mar other than don’t expect that many options ! you pay so much for legs & thighs no chicken breast same menu for lunch and dinner if you do the buffet .They run out of food !!!! so if you reserve a time choose the first one or you won’t find any food left ridiculous. The staff is rude , the waiters take forever to get you a drink ! might as well get it yourself. The unlimited drinks are watered down , the beer is sometimes hot which is disgusting. Theres not much to do besides the pool and bar and one show they give . Club is closed which makes no sense if every bar/club in the country is open. Definitely not worth it. No fridge in the room ! hot water one lousy bar soap & shampoo in the bathroom . The maids will look at you with disgust. They constantly bother you to join their membership. It seems as everyone who works here is miserable. The place is over priced. be prepared to walk ! check in was a drag room was far from everything!
