Very Nice condo
We have been timeshare owners since 2003 and have stayed many places. This was one of the nicest condos we have been in so far. Newly upgraded and very modern. The staff at the place were excellent. Always asking if we needed anything or if they could do anything for us. What a pleasant stay. We have been timeshare owners since 2003 and have stayed many places. Pleasant stay
Unlike many Wyndham properties that push and push and push for us to attend a sales presentation, this one accepted "no" and was gracious about it. Check in was quick and easy, although we were very early. The room was clean, comfortable, and up to date. Staff were friendly and helpful. The only negatives are odd noises in the night, e.g. a low frequency hum that I could not identify (likely a transformer on electrical equipment adjacent to our room). Also, it was odd that the room had enough sleeping space and dishes for six people but had only five dining chairs. Fortunately, one of our daughters was willing to sit on a chair from the porch. First time in Tahoe
We reserved a 3 bedroom for our trip and arrived at 1 pm. The clerk was nice and told us our room was not ready but we could use the pool! Great it was hot and the kids were happy after driving 7 hours. We were called less than an hour later about our room. We then had issues right away with our room keys… they didn’t work then a maintenance guy came to tell us we had to walk to the front to replace them. We were allowed to start unpacking and went back to the pool. We returned at 7pm to find the fridge not cold. Our perishables were not cold. We call the maintenance again and he tells us we put too much in the fridge? Then he tells me I should have googled it and I would have found out that a fridge will not work if you put too much food in there too fast… very rude and snarky. I just agreed and thanked him out. After that, the keys stopped working again the next day. The front desk girl didn’t seem to care that this was our second issue with our key. Customer service here is not very good here. I’ve been an owner of Wyndham timeshare for 13 years and this one is the worse with customer service. It’s in the nicest area but service is not good. The room was HOT! No AC! The view from our porch was the beautiful forest! I guess that made up for everything else. And the location is across from Zephyr Cove! We had a great time there. Oh and if you need ice you need to ask the front desk. We reserved a 3 bedroom for our trip and arrived at 1 pm. The clerk was nice and told us our room was not ready but we could use the pool! Great Stay
Even though we only had two people we had a three bed/two bath. Full kitchen, private balcony, washer/dryer. Very well equipped with everything you need. Suite was very clean and Resort Staff very friendly and professional. Grocery store right across the street with restaurants and shop within a couple of miles. Lake Tahoe is beautiful anytime of the year. We had a great time, hiking, watching sunrise/sunsets and just seeing the fall foliage. San Francisco being only about 3 1/2 hours away makes a great day trip. Even though we only had two people we had a three bed/two bath. Full kitchen, private balcony, washer/dryer. Nice Condominium
Air Conditioning: Let me start this review with just one little fact: None of the units has air conditioning. Forget what their Web site or other places on the Internet say. They do have ceiling fans in bedrooms and in the main sitting area with the couch, chairs, TV, DVD player, and such. Our unit also had a 24-inch(?) floor fan, that we could put where we wanted. It wouldn’t hurt for you to take your own small fans to supplement theirs if you visit in the summer. Our suite was 79 degrees according to the thermostat when we first moved our things in just before 6 p.m. on July 12. Nearly every afternoon and evening our suite also got into the upper 70s. The lowest we could get the room during our entire week was 70, and that was only one morning when we got an early start opening the windows while it was still in the 40s outside. We also had an afternoon storm run through one afternoon to help a little with temperature inside our suite. The rest of the mornings were in the low to mid-70s inside, but those temperatures went up during the day to the upper 70s every late afternoon into the evening. Some evenings did cool off enough that we could open windows after dark (9:00 or so) and get some cooling. The only chance for cross-ventilation is the front window in the master bedroom. That’s the only window on that side of the unit. The patio side has the sliding glass door, a large double-opening window in the sitting room, and a regular window in the second bedroom. Notification and arrival: On July 12, 2020, my wife and I drove all day from Utah to Worldmark South Shore at Lake Tahoe to fulfill a reservation we had made in June 2019. I had called the week before our arrival, just to find out if they had any special instructions or concerns about the coronavirus and such. While talking to Sam, he suggested that we call about an hour before our expected arrival. He didn’t say why, but it was for a good purpose as I found out later, which just didn’t work out this time. When my wife and I arrived at Costco in South Carson City in the next valley over from Lake Tahoe to top off the gas tank, I called Worldmark at 3:55 p.m. and talked with a clerk about our room. I’ll leave her name out of this, since she probably has been retrained by now. She told me that our room was ready so we could stop at the office and check right in once we arrived. We drove the rest of the way and stopped in at the Worldmark office, not quite an hour later. After a brief wait for a customer ahead of me, at proper social distance, I was called to the counter, where I got to meet the clerk who had talked with me on the phone and continue with our check-in. As she searched for my information, she finally reached a point where she said that we didn’t have a room. One of the other clerks had assigned it to another party. Upon further query, I found out that they had a room for us, just not ready. We had called ahead, as suggested, and were assured our room was ready and waiting for us. Yet, when we arrived, we had no room. The clerks had a discussion back and forth about how that error had occurred. Evidently, the software requires a click or insertion in a certain field or whatever to show that the room has, indeed, been assigned already, which had not been done during my call from Carson City. With apologies, the clerk and the other clerk mentioned that they did have another room, which was still being cleaned and would be ready soon and they would call as soon as it was ready. I took that news back to my wife, who had been sitting in the car during this time, waiting for me and trying to stay tolerably cool, at 80+ degrees, but in the shade, at about 5 o’clock. After waiting in the car for another 40 minutes (we waited for 15 minutes, then another 15 minutes, and then another 10 minutes with “If they haven’t called by…” at each interval), and after having discussed the issue and timing with my wife a few times, and her saying more than once that she “was not impressed,” she told me that we should lock up the car and both go in, now, and find out just what was taking them so long. Just as I was starting to roll up all the windows of the car, my phone rang with our call from the office. So, my wife and I continued to secure the car and then we both walked up to the office this time and collected our room assignment and check-in packet. In my years in business, I learned enough to know that this obviously fell short of reasonable customer support. From the little I know as a customer on the outside of the systems they have in place, this appears to be a training issue. It should be resolved easily by making sure all clerks know to check that box or whatever it takes during that first phone call to make sure the room is properly assigned and no longer available for reassignment with that first phone call an hour ahead of arrival, so the room will be ready for a quick check-in and will avoid this kind of situation in the future. I don’t know if the call ahead is a standard for the location or just because of the coronavirus and desire to minimize contact in the office, but this certainly fell short of that action and left us hanging for nearly another hour after arriving and after having been assured that our room was ready for immediate access. Now that we have that out of the way, here’s the rest of my review about the property and the unit: The property grounds: At first glance and without studying it deeply on Google Earth, this complex appears to be on more level ground, but it is on a slope. The lowest ground level is about 30 feet lower than the highest ground level point in the complex. Each building has several units and limited parking. The parking is designed for one space per suite. If you haul any toys or include other vehicles, you will have to park them off-site. We were in building 4, so we had four gas grills and picnic tables to choose from outside the back. We did all our cooking indoors, but others made good use of the grills and tables most evenings and some mornings and generally had jovial visits with others while some wore masks or at least stayed at a decent social distance. Worldmark staff cleaned the gas grills daily, as needed, and relined them with foil for easier clean-up. The Suite: We had a two-bedroom, two bath special needs unit, so some of this description will apply more to that than a regular unit. Our room was on the ground floor. The North end of the building 4 parking lot has stairs that go down to the main floor while the other end has a slanted walkway to the ground floor, which would accommodate a wheelchair. The building does have enclosed stairs at each end and an elevator on the North to provide access to the other floors. Since we were on the ground floor, we didn’t need those. The roll-in shower is in the main bathroom between the bedrooms. The master bath, accessible only through the room with the king bed in it, has a step-in shower. The murphy bed opens at an angle toward the dining room and small patio. We didn’t need the murphy bed, but I opened it long enough to get a picture of how it sits when it’s open. I have included pictures of all the rooms. I’ll let the pictures do most the talking about the layout. The kitchen is typical of Worldmark properties with appliances and plenty of utensils, including pots and pans for cooking and baking. Be aware that warmer months might be a little uncomfortable in these units, as it was for us, but the fans do help take the edge off the heat by moving the air around. If the temperature outside will be in the 80s, plan on having the inside temperature in the mid to upper 70s starting in the late afternoon and going until the midevening or so when the temperature outside might drop below the mid-70s. Cabinets, counters, tables, chairs, bathrooms, and all were quite clean when we arrived. The one thing my wife and I both noticed, though, was that her feet and my socks were filthy by the end of the day from walking around on the carpet. I suggest that you keep foot coverings on your feet at all times, whether you wear socks, like I did, or sandals or even shoes. My wife and I enjoyed our stay with only two or three things that detracted from our overall enjoyment. As usual, the Worldmark property was certainly better than just a hotel or motel room, so I give it four stars. Wi-Fi: Their on-site Wi-Fi is not secure. While there, I did not conduct any business with my personal accounts. I suggest that you set up VPN on your computer if you plan to do anything more personal than open your social account (Facebook or other). Social accounts might be less of a target for hackers and scammers than your personal finances or e-mail accounts. Bears: On two different days, we had bears rummaging in the dumpster just north of the BBQ grills next to our suite. The first one was a female with three cubs early Tuesday morning, July 14. First, we had a few sheriffs show up, and they were cautious enough to have various weapons at the ready while they tried to scare the mother away with flashing lights, sirens, and blasting horns starting at about 6:15. They didn’t know that she had three cubs small enough that they couldn’t climb back out of the dumpster, so the mama bear wasn’t going anywhere. The game department finally showed up and took care of the situation with tranquilizers and checking all for health and getting samples from the cubs and tagging them. The mama bear was one they had known since her first such encounter in 2012 at an estimated age of 5 years and a few times since. For one of the rangers, it was almost a happy reunion. They told us that they’d haul them up the mountain a short distance so they wouldn’t be too far from their familiar range, and wait for them to fully recover from the sedatives. They said that if she had been alone, they would take her farther away, but with the cubs, she had a hard enough job to take care of them without traumatizing them further by taking them to an unfamiliar range. The next bear we had raiding the dumpster at about dawn a couple mornings later was bigger, so we figured he must be a male. He ended up leaving on his own when more people were getting out and about without authorities being called out. Location: Worldmark South Shore is just a half-mile up the hill from Nevada Beach, which is a good place to go to play on the water. Just across the highway from Worldmark is a strip mall that includes a Safeway grocery store, which can help the Worldmark traveler with foods to put on the grill for an open-air cookout.
