Great trip. Hotel not so much
The room door did not shut or latch on its own. This is a MAJOR safety issue. Asked for clean towels our second day there, 3 hours later I had to ask again. Front desk staff is not personable nor do they seem guest oriented. Bathroom had mold in several places and an old dried cigarette butt under the bathroom vanity. Entire room needed a deep clean. Completely outdated. We won’t be staying here again The room door did not shut or latch on its own. This is a MAJOR safety issue. Beautiful View Beautiful Beach
The location is absolutely gorgeous. Eighth floor facing the ocean who could ask for more? Maybe some air conditioning on a very hot evening. Upon arrival the AC wasn’t working notified the front desk, sent someone up who said it was frozen, well upon further investigation it appeared there wasn’t anything frozen, the unit was filthy and there was an uncovered drain. Pictures upon request. Called the front desk they said he’ll fix it because they had. No where to move us. I told them I was calling RCi (another joke) and it was unacceptable to expect us to stay in a unit that was over 85 degrees. No fans, only a door to let in warm air. 30 minutes later they called and said they found a room. Interesting the new room had a digital thermostat whereas the old room had an antiquated thermostat. The furniture is in desperate need of replacement, you can feel the sofa bed, the wear and tear is apparent. Carpet was filthy and could use replacement. The pictures shown in the brochure were definitely not of this unit. They ask you to inventory the unit, but never bring you the items that are missing. How many people get charged for not doing the inventory? Same missing items? The front desk is not friendly so you really don’t want to ask for anything so we opted out to use our own towels when our supply was depleted. No midweek service due to Covid unless you request. When you depart you’re asked to strip your beds…what 5 star hotel asks you to do this? Maybe I’m off on this one…I thought I was on vacation.,,I don’t mind getting my towels together…trash together..,but stripping beds…next they’ll ask us to clean the the rooms..,btw…I did…Lysol wipes and sprayed everything upon arrival…can’t be to cautious. Loved the view…loved the beach. Check out Mary’s and Doc Taylors for breakfast and Roma’s for hot delivery pizza!! Yummy food!!! DO NOT CARE ABOUT THEIR GUESTS!
DONT STAY HERE!!! Did not feel like a valued customer. Swam in the pool where a family was letting in other families who were not staying at the hotel, 4 families all together (3 not registered) with many children took over the pool and blasted music forcing my family out. I went to the desk and told them about all the people who were let in with the loud music and how we were forced out and no one cared. I also could not get ice the whole week because 3 ice makers were down, how long does it take to get them repaired. The halls were like Saunas. I almost got hit in the parking lot by an auto that also was not registered with the hotel, and I saw many in the parking lot without tags, I told the front desk and nothing happened. I'll stay somewhere cheaper next time and I'll just use the parking and swimming facilities here because no one cares. I'll never go back, I was unable to use facilities I paid for to use. Filthy room
The positive- great location and ocean view (saw dolphins and pelicans from the room), many cooking utensils provided, great wifi and cable, USB adapters on outlets, Comfortable beds, towels provided at pool/hot tub. The negative- filthy unit I believe led to my crawling child getting sick from being on dirty floors (socks and pants visibly dirty after being on floor), bugs smooshed on wall, dead bugs on floor and around lamp lightbulb, toenail clippings in bedroom, pile of sand by nightstand, stained carpet, curtain and lampshade, Hairs stuck to bathroom ceiling, dried food particles stuck to counter sides, no soundproofing in bedroom leading to disruptive sleep listening to the elevator ding and people talk waiting for it, water pooled in tub while showering, no housekeeping service during COVID and we had to leave for them to come and clean our room as it should have been done before we got there but we weren't able to leave during the time they offered and were stuck with a dirty room all week, They have a statement plea for understanding their situation as being short staffed which may lead to oversights during this time and I admit, I did see help wanted signs all over the place in Virginia Beach. Might go back if they updated/renovate and CLEAN. Some good, some bad.
We (3 couples) stayed at the Barclay Towers for 3 nights. We picked the Barclay based upon the recommendation of 2 friends who had stayed there more than 5 years ago, and also because the price was lower than any other oceanfront hotel with balconies that we could find. The good: Being an all suite hotel, we had plenty of room. Also, the view from the balcony was great. The staff was extremely pleasant and helpful. The complimentary breakfast was very nice and we could eat out on the patio and enjoy the ocean. The bad: This hotel is not only extremely dated, it is dirty looking. I really don’t know if I can blame housekeeping…it is stains on the carpets, mold in the bathrooms. Problems that cannot be fixed with just a cleaning between guest check-ins. Perhaps when our friends stayed here, it was nicer, but it needs a complete overhaul at this point. Although the hotel had lots of nice young families, there were many guests that looked and acted “sketchy”. The hotel has two elevators, but one was not working much of the time we were there. We had 3 problems with our room. Two of them were fixed in a day (coffee pot did not fit coffee maker, clogged sink) but our toilet "ran" all the time, and even though someone came to "fix" it, it continued for the 3 nights.
