Vacation Getaway to Carlsbad

We had room 225. All in all was a great getaway. We had a couple issues with the room when we first got there that mgmt handled right away. Staff very friendly, right across from the beach and walking distance to most everything you need. My only things to say and I did let mgmt know when we checked out was the gate for the garage was right under the room, therefore heard it 24 x 7. I slept in the pull out sofa only because my hip was acting up and could not get comfortable in the bedroom. That is why I heard the gate 24 x 7. Trains blowing horns too all day and night, got used to that pretty quick. the tub would not fill so if you have small children not good. The other thing we thought was very odd was the floor everywhere there was wavy. BBQs new and clean. The crew there cleaned everything for condo exchange folks bring your own shampoo . conditioner We had room 225. All in all was a great getaway. great room, great view, great location

Location, location, location!

We stayed here with our three children and had a blast! The location to the beach and restaurants made everything easy for our family. The room size was perfect and gave all of us an area to spread out. The room was basic, clean and perfect for our family with young children. We did not feel like we had to worry about transitioning from the beach to the pool to dinner as the room had hard surfaces for easy clean up. The only downside was that the beds were VERY soft and we were not used to that. Other than that, we had a great time and will be back next year. Top price for a subpar stay

Pros: 1) near immediate beach access. A quick walk across the street gets you to one of several access points. Beach was clean and well manned with lifeguards. We even saw a pod of dolphins! 2) Walking distance to shops and restaurants, including Carlsbad Village Drive which has tons of dining and shopping options. 3) Staff were cleaning regularly in the morning, which was nice. 4) Breakfast was available on a modified basis. 5) I reserved a room with a partial ocean view, and was pleasantly surprised that I could see more than just a sliver of the ocean. Also our patio was essentially private and had patio furniture. Cons: 1) Severely overpriced, considering a similar room at the Best Western next door was 100$ less per day than what we paid for a night. (For reference, we paid 200$+ USD per night) 2) The hotel is older and showing its age. Furniture in our room was functional but I noted damage - that and I could tell it was cheap. Mattresses were ok, linens were clean. Ample towels including pool/beach towels. 4) our toilet 'self flushed' all night long. The seal inside the tank wasn't being maintained which caused it to flush periodically throughout the night. We thought it was us hearing the toilets in the neighboring rooms flush but then we figured it out. 3) IT ECHOS. The entire building is made of concrete (makes sense being on the coast) but combine that with the buildings age and minimal soundproofing We could hear conversations taking place in the pool - and our room was an easy 250 yards away. 4) Lack of enforcing quiet hours. Our neighbors (whom I'm pretty sure were drunk) tried to access our room at 0115 our first night. Kids were allowed to play in the pool past 11, when the sign clearly stated pool hours were from 10a-10p. We went to complain about the noise but someone beat us to it, since the noise was minimal the next night. Considering the price we paid, overall we were disappointed by our stay, and we are not inclined to visit again. The worst part - the 'secure' garage isn't secure enough to keep out car thieves. When we checked out the front desk was in the process of notifying several guests that their vehicles had been broken into. We were fortunate that ours was not one, but my husband overheard one of the front desk staff tell a customer that 'its happened before' but 'they got caught and were prosecuted.' I don't know about anyone else, but if I heard someone staying that I'd be revoking my reservation in a heartbeat. Pros: 1) near immediate beach access. Another Great Getaway

This was the second time I was able to stay at Tamarack Beach Resort. All the staff were professional, polite and helpful. Our unit location was amazing with a beach front view. The resort grounds were always clean. During our stay, the maintenance staff were laying carpet in the hallway but it was never an issue.
