Family Getaway
We spent a long weekend at a cabin at the Neo Oriental resort. The cabin was very clean and accommodating. It was nice having a kitchen. We ate dinner at the Japanese restaurant, it was good. Make sure you make reservations in advance on weekends. Another night, they were full and Ono (from the front desk) drove our group of 8 people (4 adults and 4 kids age ranging from 3-12 years old) to a Japanese restaurant about a mile away. Since we don’t speak Japanese, he even came in and helped us order! Our friends also stayed at the Resort, they were very accommodating and put us in cabins close to each other (we booked separately, so I had a Japanese-speaking friend call in advance and request cabins close to each other). The kids had fun building a snowman in the yard. It appears there are different types of cabins. Our cabin was Japanese-style and only had futons. We brought an air mattress with us. We spent two days sledding and skiing at Sun Meadows and Fujimi Kogen. Both family-friendly and only about 15-20 minutes away. We spent a long weekend at a cabin at the Neo Oriental resort. Great place to stay and reasonably priced
My family stayed at one of the cottages and truly enjoyed ourselves. We drove there so just getting to the place was an adventure. Thanks to Google maps, it was a breeze. Selecting Neo Oriental met all our expectations, 1- not too far off the express way and less than three hours from Yokohama, 2- a ski resort or resorts within 20 minutes, where the entire family could enjoy the day (Sun Meadows). 3- a private bathroom and shower and an onsen close by. The cottage met all our requirements and also included a private hot bath at the cottage, which was outstanding after a day at the ski resort. The staff spoke some english are were extremely helpful and accommodating. They certainly went out of their way to assist and made recommendations on places to eat (including the restaurant in the main building). A couple key things to note: 1- There are no convenient stores within walking distance. So plan accordingly. 2- Outside of the main reception area, there were not too many places to eat at within walking distance( at least during the winter time). 3. If you are not driving, you may want to check with the reception area on what services they can provide, i.e. pickup/drop off at the train station or ski resorts nearby. 4. It is/was extremely cold in the winter and the pipes must have froze, so we were not able to use the shower on out last day and have to resort to alternate methods( they have a spa at the main building). Overall, we had a blast and plan go to back next month again. I truly enjoyed the experience. My family stayed at one of the cottages and truly enjoyed ourselves. Simply Amazing!!
My wife and I spent 2 nights in this resort during Jan'17, we were extremely satisfied with the location, service and everything else. The resort consists of few cottages in a hill forest area, I very highly recommend this resort to all honeymooners and people looking for rest and relaxation. Reception, Store, Restaurants, Spa etc. are all in the main building. There is a a free pick up and drop service between main building and cottages. When we arrived at Kobuchizawa station, we called the hotel and asked them to arrange for a taxi which they did in just under 5 mins. The receptionist was waiting for us outside to welcome us, she explained everything about the resort to us in great details. She also asked us about our plans during the 2 days and gave us some advises, maps and brochures. Pocket wifi router worked perfectly with excellent battery life and speed. Our cottage was amazing... very spacious, clean, well decorated, not far from the main building. we loved our cottage... we took a long walk around the area which was very scenic and breathtaking. I haven't come across any staff who are as friendly and helpful as in Neo Oriental, we have made many many requests and they never made us feel that we are asking for too much, in fact we were surprised in some cases that they have actually accepted our requests. When we didn't go for breakfast as we were sleeping, they brought us breakfast in the room without even asking. The store in the main building has good variety of food, sweets etc. They also provide a free bus service between resort and Kobuchizawa station 5-6 times a day, the only thing, they need to be informed by 8pm the previous day. My wife and I walked from the resort to Kobuchizawa station in approx. 40 mins. My wife tried the Spa and she loved it... she said it was one of the best she has ever seen. Cons: There is no phone in the room, so all communication with hotel staff have to be done using a mobile phone. The buffet dinner wasn't great but the other Japanese restaurant was very very good. Conclusion: I very highly recommend this hotel, my wife and I decided to come to this resort in our next visit to Japan for longer stay... Excellent experience
This resorts located inside a mountain 2 hours away from Mt. Fuji. There were more than hundred of cottages spread around the mountain with a main service building at the entrance. Visitors needed a car to go to their cottage. If you did not drive there they provided pick-up and drop-off service to bring you to and from the main building and your cottage. There were big cottage for over 20 people and I stayed in a smaller cottage for 6 people (I booked one for 4 people and eventually got one for 6 people). My cottage was 8 minutes away from the main building. The cottage was Japanese style with a kitchen, a living room, 2 bed rooms and a bath room. You can choose another type of cottage with in-house hot spring but they did not have a kitchen. The cottage was very big with a parking lot outside. The kitchen came with everything we needed. We prepared dinner one night ourselves. All necessary amenities were provided in the bath room. There was no Wi-Fi around the area. Even though we brought along our own 4G router, the signal was very weak. The main building provided lot of facilities including restaurant, game center, souvenir shop, convenient shop, car pick-up service and washing machines. The resort was located inside a mountain and the nearest convenient store required 20 minutes drive. Nearest supermarket required 30 minutes drive and the nearest town with restaurant required 40 minutes drives. This resorts located inside a mountain 2 hours away from Mt. Fuji. Quiet mountain getaway
Five of us (all adults) stayed for 3 nights on very cool nights in November in the Mayfair cabin. Very few people here at the resort so we had the onsen pretty much to ourselves every night - and it felt sooooo good after sightseeing out in the cold wind most of the day. The views of Fuji from the resort area were spectacular as well as all the other mountains. Huge pines surrounded our cabin and we saw deer in the woods. Local wine producing area not far away. Plenty of hiking if you are up for a climb. Five of us (all adults) stayed for 3 nights on very cool nights in November in the Mayfair cabin.
