NEVER AGAIN
We booked for 2 nights in a deluxe double room with a loch view. The payment of £194 was taken out of my account 3 days before we got there. I phoned ahead to say we were arriving before check in time and they said the room was ready. When we got there, there was no one on reception and our booking form and payment receipt was lying on the counter with a room key. Room 3. The room was tiny. You couldn't swing a cat in it. There was a tiny window which all the heat from a tiny heater went out off. There was no heating throughout the whole hotel. The duvet hrdly covered the bed. The paintwork was dirty and peeling off the wall in places. The room next to ours was a double and was far larger than ours. When we asked if we had the wrong room we were told it was the deluxe . I feel there is false advertising at this hotel. There was no organisation at breakfast. The man who eventually did serve us had his coat on. Breakfast was basic and it stated on the menu we could only have ONE of any item on the list. The toast was cold and we got 1 slice each. Staff really couldn't have cared less about their guests. Freezing unprofessional and no masks
We arrived at the hotel to be greeted at reception with a member of staff wearing no mask, but that was only the beginning not one single member of staff wore any masks. I believe that any hotel I stay in has a duty of care to look after their guests, I find this hotel lacked this in mainly one part, I think this hotel should have informed myself that the heating was broken. We went into the bar at 5.00 for a drink it was freezing We then had the person who served us surrounded us with electric convection heaters and to be told they were having technical difficulties with the heating. We had dinner around 6.45 they moved us to another table and again surrounded us with heaters, the barman asked if we wanted to move into the small conference room as it wasn't quite as cold, we ended up going to our room at 7.30pm as it was impossible to sit in the bar for a drink with the cold temperature. Breakfast was served in the small conference room which was still freezing. We went out for the day and made the decision when we went back to check out 2 days early we checked out at 3.00 Saturday we were asked why we were leaving early when I explained it the person in reception just looked perplexed and took our key. The hotel has still charged us for our 3 nights, but with the heating issues and not informing us before we arrived they have failed intheir duty of care towards their guests and should at least be offering us back a refund of our 2 nights we didn't stay in the hotel, the irony of all this is we only chose this hotel because we had a fabulous stay in the muthu alexandra hotel in oban in October. Visited on a Groupon excellent value for a 3 course meal food was delicious as was the service !!
Ok lets get the needs improvement stuff out of the way 1st We booked a table for two and turned up on time but there was nobody at the front desk nor was there anyone else about. We found what looked like a group of folk having a meeting which were actually the staff and it was apparent that they were not expecting us. A gentleman (glasses ,beard about 40 ish) then took over and directed us to our seat by the window which had a great view across the loch in spite of it being wet and misty. The room was very cold and the wife was freezing and at thqt point we were defo thinking that this was not going to be a very good experience but sometimes your host can turn it around from a bad start and that is what happened here. The gentleman who served us was very polite , friendly and apologised for the cold as they had a problem with their heating which was very plausable as storm Arwen had just breezed on by a day before and he provided us with a heater which helped greatly. He also gave my wife a complimentary latte extra hot. We were joined in the room by 4 old ladies and one of them told us about the previous owners and how they always used to meet up at the Muthu for afternoon tea etc which was what they were having I presume possibly on another Groupon deal and judged by the amount of cakes and sandwiches looked to be equally as good a deal as we had. However it was very concerning to us what she was saying about the new owners the fact that they were Malysian (which should not make a blind bit of difference) and that it was not the same yet they were being treated very well by the same gentleman we had and having some banter with him also but sometimes the elderly should be a little less judgemental as things do change and instead of winnying about it explain why its not the same and see what they can do about it the industry needs bums on seats just now so I hope that as we were there in the afternoon it got busier later on. It certainly deserves to be given a chance as once he got going our server was excellent. The hotel itself has some lovely decor and was spotlessly clean the food was very nice and tasty indeed and a bargain at £16.50 for a 3 course meal with a menu that was very well varied to cater for anyones taste so all of you up there should be falling over yourselves to grab this bargain and give the Muthu your custom you will not be disappointed. I was so impressed with the turnaround from the bad start that I was going to give him a tip but he actually refused it stating that he apologised for the cold and the slow start which was a 1st for me but shows that it's not all about the money. Trust me folks I love eating out and have a lot of reviews on here about it and if it sorts out the organizational side of things and the locals give them a chance through wintertime and give it the support it deserves till the tourists arrive in spring you can all enjoy some good food and service too at the Muthu. Long Weekend
Had a really relaxing break here with my family. The room was spacious with great facilities and a good view. The housekeeping was done well, honestly very good standard. Breakfast was tasty with good service. My son is Autistic and his food timings are little different than standard Hotel timings but all the staff who assisted us in Hotel can’t be any more helpful. Every time I asked something they delivered with smile. Hotel got good parking space which is bonus. Thanks to Mr. Amit who booked our room with perfect view and also thanks to Mr. Deepak and all his team in hotel for great hospitality. Looking forward for my next weekend away and stay. Awesome view from rooms
It was one of the best hotel to stay in highland. The staff is very helpful and hotel is cleaneed. Best of our stay was we got lovely meals through out our stay. The bar is very nice with lot of varieties of liquor. Previously we stayed in different hotels fort william but this hotel ia overall different experience and lot of caring staff It was one of the best hotel to stay in highland.
