Fun for kids, expensive for parents
I wanted to come here as a family because I'm pregnant and wanted to spoil (?) my 3 year old daughter before she no longer is an only child. And I thought it would be a fun family vacation. She has seen pictures of her cousins in the water park and had been asking to go. I looked on the website and they were offering deals that were 30%off, 40% off, even 50%off. What a deal right? I wish I read reviews on it sooner. I had friends and family that did let me know ahead of time, the arcade is a ripoff, the food is expensive, and their kids were afraid of the water park amusements. I booked Monday- Wednesday, to avoid crowds, especially during a pandemic. It certainly was dead. Less than 45% capacity they said. I arrived at 2pm and the room was ready. The wolf den(?) suite is adorable. Clean. Bathroom is freezing, no heat in there for some reason. Lots of towels. They let us know that housekeeping does not come daily due to the pandemic so you have to ask for things from the front desk. Good size mini fridge for whatever you want to bring. Working microwave. Coffee maker of some kind. Second TV inside the kids area. The water park was clean. It seems smaller in person than in pictures. It's annoying that there are two rooms and not one large water park area. Water looked clean. Everything looked in working condition. Life guards pace around (it was pretty dead, don't think it was necessary) to make people feel safe, I guess. My daughter enjoyed the wave pool, and one slide. That was it from the water park. We spent maybe two hours total there. It was 30 degrees outside, and there's a ton of windows in one of the rooms, so the moment you got out of the water, you were freezing. In order to get to the water park, you have to walk through an arcade. I think this is true regardless of where your room is. We were located by the howling moon arcade or whatever. My daughter enjoyed the rope course which was included, yay to that. But we ended up spending lots of money at the arcade because it was her favorite thing about the place. I heard other kids also screaming to go to the arcade, and then Dad would say "mom says we're going to the water park". "But I want to go to the arcade!" "No, mom says we're going to the water park." Arcade is expensive and mostly claw games. Scam. But so much fun. My 3 year old ended up winning a jackpot of like, 1006 tickets and got herself a unicorn stuffy at the end of the trip. So it wasn't so bad I guess. They have free daily activities but we hardly ever made it on time, like yoga, crafts. We got to see snow in the lobby, the animal friends show, dance parties, and Santa. We got a pup pass and got candy, build a bear, $5 at arcade... So that killed some time and maybe saved money? We ate at the restaurant on site... And got a pizza one night from the pizza place inside the arcade. And then got Dunkin for breakfast. The pizza was good. The restaurant wasn't so bad either. But it was expensive for what it is. After our trip, I was told there are some restaurants in the area including a good Korean place. Oh, well. The Dunkin was dead in the morning but if the resort was full, I can imagine it being mayhem. They don't take DD perks, so no mobile ordering, no scanning your app. What a long review. We would go back but would do things differently. Probably stay one night instead of two. Get food/drink elsewhere. Go with other family/friends so my daughter has kids to encourage her to play more in the water park. Weekday trips seem to be where it's at. Not many people wear masks either, so if it's crowded and busy, you could potentially catch COVID, who knows. There's all sorts of fees BTW. On top of paying for whatever we paid. Pics included. Felt Poorly Maintained
We live near by, I took my child there for a midweek day pass for something to do as it was relatively inexpensive. I was stoked to find a deal, as we had been before several years ago with my older daughter and she enjoyed it, but it was super expensive to stay overnight. A day pass was perfect. Overall, the experience was fine for what we paid, but I cant imagine paying full price to go there again. The hot tub water was SUPER gross. The water was cloudy/milky and had a lot of debris in it, the caulking was all yellow and peeling, and the sweeper between the inside and outside was gross, not to mention it was just lukewarm (which worked well, admittedly, for my child.) There are very few if any "loungers" to lay out and relax on. Only regular chairs. We showed up before the water park was open, and there was nowhere to store our items while waiting, so I had to carry my giant beach bag around. The small splash pads were gross too, yellow staining on the cement pads, broken items or items not working the way they were supposed to, etc. It was fine, but not great. It all just felt so poorly maintained. The bathrooms in the pool area smelled super gross like urine and the shower would NOT shut off no matter what way I turned it. The arcade was fun, but SUPER expensive. We went through $50 in about 20 minutes. I get that the machines aren't cheap to run, but $20 at Funspot will at least get you an hour. They don't take cash for anything anymore, and don't give you "tickets" when you win a game - which I'm 50/50 on. I support it in the way that its better for the environment, but my kid was looking for the excitement of walking around with a bunch of tickets. We had to purchase a plastic card to put money on anyways - so much for the environment aspect. EVERYTHING costs money, and a lot of it. Im fine with that because I had a day pass and it didn't cost me much to go, but I can't imagine going there, paying a TON to stay overnight, and having to pay for so much on top of it. The quest game was down, too. We didn't play but I know lots of kids were super disappointed in that, and it's one of their main attractions outside of the pools. Overall it was FINE. My kid had fun enough, we didn't stay the whole day though because he was cold from the pool water and after spending another $175 on food, arcade, and random activities I was tapped out. The lifeguards were ON POINT though! I will give them credit for that, and they did have plenty of life vests available (don't know about condition, as we brought our own.) Most of the staff was nice, we didn't interact with them much. The lady at the minigolf counter was super nice to refund us $14 when I realized my son was too young to handle the game. She didn't have to, and that was really kind of her. We live near by, I took my child there for a midweek day pass for something to do as it was relatively inexpensive. Needs Update
My family of 4 stayed here for Halloween this year (2 kids- 11 and 13 years old). ROOM- We stayed in a wolf den suite. The bunk beds and bed sheets were too short for both of my kids. The bunkbeds were also hard as rock. They enjoyed having a seperate TV. The main queen bed was comfortable. The room looked clean. It had a mini-fridge, microwave, and coffee maker. POOL AREA- The 2 indoor swim areas were seperate and it was a pain to go back and forth. My 2 boys really enjoyed the water slides and there was never a line. The hot tub was unpleasant with lots of screaming children who were unsupervised. EXTRA ACTIVITIES- We were unimpressed with Magi Quest. The Grapevine Texas location is easier to navigate and has many more magical stations. The Magi Quest store was empty with not many wand options. My 2 boys loved the unlimited rock climbing and rope course. FOOD- Everything we tried tasted great but was slightly overpriced. Everything at the buffet was exceptional (lodge wood fired grill). Buckets inside the pool area was also tasty. The line for Dunkin Donuts was about an hour wait and I wish there had been more breakfast options. --Overall, we had a fun time but our family will probably not return to this location. The location in Texas was larger, cleaner, and more updated. This location in Massachusetts felt out of date, dirty, and the entire layout of the hotel was awkward. Good for a 2 and 4 year old
This was our first time at an indoor water park and we didn't know what to expect. It met our needs for a quick getaway from Boston. Our kids, ages 2 and 4, had a great time, they were exhausted at the end of the day, and we had a restful two nights. For the grownups, we were happy to have a break from having to figure out how to keep two highly energetic kids entertained. The Good: - We paid $180 a night for the Deluxe Queen Suite Sunday - Tuesday. If we would have paid more I probably would have been more grumpy about some of the negatives. - The staff were great. Its a tough time to be in the service industry and these folks do not have an easy job. They are likely underpaid and underappreciated. We were thankful they were there so we had this opportunity to spend time together as a family. - The lifeguards made us feel safe. They seemed well trained and paid attention to the their jobs. They did a good job of balancing safety and allowing us freedom to enjoy the water, not being overbearing with the whistle and rules. We felt comfortable letting our 4 year old have space to explore the kid areas on his own. - There is plenty for toddlers and young kids to do in the water park. We were worried that our kids would be too young to enjoy much of the park. It was the opposite, I would be concerned that there wouldn't be enough to entertain older kids. There was enough variety between the water areas to keep them interested. We go to a lot of splash pads, wadding pools, and spray decks so were happy to see there was much more than that. - The room was clean, the main areas were clean, and the water park areas were clean. I mean, yeah, there was stuff laying around occasionally, but it certainly didn't look like a tornado of kids hit the place. I was impressed how clean the common areas were kept, especially with the volume of people. - There are things to do that don't cost extra $$$. (1) The ropes course for toddlers and small kids is free. (2) If you go into the laser game when the music is playing its a free dance party with lights. (3) There are plenty of buttons for kids to press and things to sit on that keeps them entertained in the arcade area without having to actually play anything. The not so good: - Some activities felt a little run down and tired. It probably takes a ton of work to maintain a place that welcomes thousands of kids and their adults, so it looked pretty good from that scale. But some things were a little disappointing. (1) The magiquest game was well used, and the technology felt fairly out of date. Granted, we did this with a 4 year old so it was more about making things light up than actually following the story line. Maybe that is more interesting? (2) The animatronic forest friends were not working properly, though there wasn't any notice of that given. I happened to hear it from a staff member when I asked what time the show was. It was awkward, watching kids sit there staring at these things halfway working, music coming on and off, long moments of silence, etc. It would have been better if they just said it was broken. (3) The mini golf and bowling were just sad, especially considering how much they cost ($7/person). We would have done it if it was free, or maybe $7 total. (4) The mining game is just confusing. Why? I didn't see anyone playing it the entire time. I think they could do better than what that was. - The kids activities were great in theory, however the space they held them in was awkward. Kids activities were held in a fairly small space near the main entrance, which was often a space people walked through to get to other parts of the building. It was also smack against a concession stand that was open in the evenings. They could use a separate designated space for these events, it would make it feel more inviting and would be more enjoyable. Our kids did the coloring activity, the awkward friends show, and we attempted the dance party. - The dance party was great until it wasn't. The thing is, everywhere you go they are trying to get you to spend money. Makes sense, but it was disappointing when they wheeled out the cart full of flashy light up toys and bubble makers right as the dance party started. It went from our kids having fun dancing to them being obsessed with buying a $20 bubble maker toy. So we left and didn't return the next night. - I am a recovering alcoholic so maybe I notice this more than others, but the drinking culture was a bit much at times. I mean, if you have to drink at 10am at a water park for your kids you might want to look into AA. Alcohol was readily available in all areas, and there seemed to be some groups really getting into the drinking. - The arcade was more like a casino for kids. There weren't many actual games to play. It was mostly gimmicking things to earn tickets, or those claw machines. If they added some actual video games it might provide some additional entertainment for the adults. It sure was flashy and full of lights though, which is likely the point. - The only open space to sit was in the play park area, which was on the opposite end from the main hotel and is an awkward space being right outside of people's rooms. You had to walk through the arcade and water park area to get to it. It would have been great to have a space to sit and eat ice cream or just have a snack in the main hotel. - The food offerings were very limited. Some non-dairy ice creams and deserts, and gluten free things would have been nice. Thankfully dunkin donuts came into the modern age and got non-diary milks in the past couple of years. Also, where is the Ben and Jerrys! I feel like thats an easy one. - The pandemic measures were half-assed. I get that wearing a mask isn't required if you are vaccinated, but even kids were not wearing masks. I would say 85% of people weren't wearing masks, including a lot of the staff. We wore masks in public areas but felt comfortable without them in the water park. Its huge, has a lot of air circulation, and is pretty much like being outside. Every hand sanitizer station I tried was empty, and there wasn't any efforts to keep people distanced from each other. On Sunday people were packed in right on top of each other. Suggestions: - Don't buy a paw pass ahead of time. You can purchase it at any point during your stay so its better to see what it covers and judge if it is worth it. - Bring food to make. The fridge in the room was bigger than a typical hotel room fridge, and there is a microwave. We got by without buying any food in the hotel by bringing chicken nuggets, macaroni and cheese, oatmeal, and other things that could easily be made in a microwave. Or, leave the park for food. There is plenty within a 10 minute drive. I got a pretty great fried chicken sandwich and peanut oil fried french fries at Sookie's. - Bring your own food to the water park. I read somewhere that there is no outside food, but I saw tons of outside food. No one was enforcing that. - One dunkin donuts can't serve an entire building full of people. There are three dunkin donuts in the area, one a three minute drive. If you really want your morning coffee hop in the car. - Ice cream is cheap, $2.50 a scoop - I found a water fountain where you can refill water bottles. Its in the side of the water park with the bar and food, by the bathrooms. I didn't see any others in the building so I was pretty excited to see that. - Sunday was packed, Monday was great. If you can, go during the week if you want more space. This was our first time at an indoor water park and we didn't know what to expect. It met our needs for a quick getaway from Boston. I usually tend to avoid writing negative reviews, I’m more of a “bright side” or “maybe it was an off day” person, but i want to give an honest review for those who plan on spending HUNDREDS (about 1k for us) to visit. We booked two nights for our daughters birthday trip. We had seen in many emails, website, etc. that check in was at 4, but we could get there at 1pm to use the water park until the room was ready. We arrived around 1:15 on a Thursday afternoon. We had already used online check-in. When I walked in, the line was HUGE…like wrapped around the lobby huge. We waited 2 hours, just to check in. Guests were yelling, staff was yelling back, people were mad about the wait, kids were going crazy. It was NUTS. Finally after one exceptionally angry guest, they started walking through the check in line handing out wrist bands to the water park, so that one adult could continue to wait an hour in line to check in, and the other could bring the kids to the water park. We finally got to our room after waiting since 1:15, at 4:05. While in line, we got an email that half of the water park had a boiler problem, and the water was ICE COLD. My kids hated it, but i loved that side because there were far less people lol! We spent around $100 with tip and two alcoholic beverages at the restaurant for dinner (which was buffet) I usually tend to avoid writing negative reviews, I’m more of a “bright side” or “maybe it was an off day” person, but i want to give an honest review for those who plan on spending HUNDREDS (about 1k for us) to visit.
