Very Disappointed and shocked
We have travelled to this hotel for more than 15 years and always enjoyed our stays. It was always a small resort, well maintained on a beautiful beach. The staff was also wonderful but has been diminished by half. This year we booked an entire month and was not informed that it was a demolition/construction site. We were awakened each morning (Saturday included) at 6:30 with the banging on the building beside us and then jack hammering began at 7:00 a.m. and continued until at least 5 p.m.. One day, the chunks of cement being dropped over the side bounced off the sidewalk a foot away from the pool where we were swimming. The pool is in need of refurbishing, many of the tiles are falling off the walls. Only one day in the entire month did we see a person maintaining the pool and skimming debris off the water. There wasn't an activities staff as there always had been. You had to get your pool towels in the front lobby which is not convenient to the pool. One day we walked into the front lobby and there wasn't a single person in the lobby. In the past there would have been a concierge, at least 3 bell boys, people on the front desk and then the time share people. There isn't a concierge at all. The evening bar is being demolished with the building, so no bar or entertainment. The Sun Market where you buy necessities was diminished to 1/10th of the original Sun Market and contained very few supplies. The massage spa was gone. One of the worst problems was the entrance. Since the driveway was blocked off to avoid demolition debris, you had to enter through the underground service entrance and use the stairs or the single service elevator. This was very inconvenient when you first arrived, were leaving and every time you brought groceries. Normally you would pull up to the front door and the bell boys would help you. Most of the time there was only one bell boy and he was busy. He of course was not standing in the parking lot waiting for your arrival. The building on the other side of ours was in the middle of construction and we listened to that noise as well. Since we were loyal, yearly customers we were always given an ocean view room . This year we were given a first floor handicap room. We were told that we would be moved to an upper floor. We asked weekly for a change and were informed during the last week, that since we did not upgrade we would not be given a better room. The worst of this was the fact that there were definitely empty rooms on higher floors. We were being punished for not upgrading. Buyer beware, this is how you will be treated. We feel that we should have been warned before booking, or could have been offered a discount. When we complained to the manager on the last week, he offered an amount for food and drink. We did appreciated the offer. We have travelled to this hotel for more than 15 years and always enjoyed our stays. It was always a small resort, well maintained on a beautiful beach. Mayan Palace is a good place to relax
The hotel is nice but there are 2 building constructions in the ground for Grand Mayan and Grand Luxxe. The pool is great but cold. Colder than the sea. The restaurant is ok but expensive. We ended up eating outside many times. We walked on the beach and it is fun. My son swam on the beach too. Small resort
I really enjoyed our time at the resort. It is small but that is nice, easy to get around. Really enjoyed the beach, waiters where fast for drinks. This is not like the Mayan Palace we bought into, not as updated but we still enjoyed it. The only complaint was the location of our room. By back road so dump trucks and loud, no view. It seems like we keep upgrading our timeshare but still haven't had a view of the ocean. Going to try again December. Cross our fingers we can get a view. Can't wait to see the staff again they where very helpful and friendly I really enjoyed our time at the resort. It is small but that is nice, easy to get around. Mayan Palace
Worst place in 30 years I have ever stayed. Most anti American and Canadian place in Mexico. If you are Americans or Canadian don’t stay here!! Under major construction and needs so much work. No service, no facilities to do anything….boring and rude. The supervisors are rude as hell to Americans Worst place in 30 years I have ever stayed. Most anti American and Canadian place in Mexico. Employees 5 Stars, Resort 2 Stars, Time Share Sharks -10 Stars
Let me start with saying the entire staff at the Mayan Palace are fabulous. They are happy, friendly and bend over backwards to be helpful. The resort itself is long over do for the renovation. The Mayan building is getting very run down and the pool is in bad shape and still not heated! We were told over 15 years ago when we purchased that they would be building a Grand Mayan in a few years. Sadly, several years later they told us a Grand Mayan and a Grand Bliss would be built! Boy were we fools! We agreed to the 90 minute owners update because we were told they would only be updating us on the property and we were also told that we would see a model of what the property would eventually look like. The presentation started as usual with a 25 minute talk before going to breakfast. While at breakfast I glanced at my fitness bracelet and Patrico told me to stop looking at my watch. That it made him uncomfortable! Once we went back to the sales office, the presentation turned into exactly that, a sales presentation where they tried to sell us a residential property starting at over $600,000! Patrico became somewhat rude and basically told us that we were wasting the money we had already invested if we did not purchase a residential property. We finally got out of there after 2 hours. We will never do another owners update and at this point we will keep trading and going to other properties in Mazatlan. Oh, they never did show us the model of the future Mazatlan property.
