FAVC Member Explorean Cozumel with Family
Just wrapping up our second visit at the Cozumel Explorean and several things have changed since our first pre-COVID visit in 2019. We traveled both times with extended family with ages ranging from 19-81. The biggest disappointment was the beach closure—this was never relayed to us until our concierge called the day before we left. We were told it is due to a permit issue with the local government and should be resolved in early 2022. But this completely changed the vibe of the whole trip. Several people said the beach day with boat would make up for it, but our boat/beach tour was canceled the night before we were scheduled. It’s difficult to spend all the money on a beach vacation with no beach. That being said, we love FAVC and always look forward to our visits with the staff. So, the pros and cons: PROS: 1) Incredible staff and service on the property. This is easily the best thing about FA properties. They pamper you throughout your entire stay and take time to get to know you. 2) Best of both worlds-staying at the Explorean gives you full access to everything at the adjoining FA, but exclusive access to the Explorean restaurant and tours, which are included (one per day) in the daily schedule. 3) Jungle-like vibe and nice private casitas (4 per building) with only 14 buildings make it a more intimate setting. 4) Quiet and peaceful. You can go to the main FA pool for more activity or stay more excluded at the Explorean pool. 5) Cozumel is beautiful, easy to travel and has awesome people. CONS: 1) Obviously, no open beach at a beach resort is problematic. The property has not discounted anything for this, which is unacceptable. As a member, you try to optimize your available points—this was a huge letdown. The rate should have been incentivized. 2) Buffet service is in the main hotel and squeezed in with the other restaurants and services. Expecting the beautiful buffet location on the beach, being relegated to a hallway is not nearly as enjoyable. No view at all. 3) Food is plentiful and service is excellent, but choices are lacking. FA has tried to make every dish a visual delight, but there is nowhere to get a great taco or burrito when you don’t want the fancy meal. The cevicheria was on the beach, so that isn’t even an option. And the pizza brick oven is no more, which was a family favorite. 4) No doesn’t mean no when you don’t want to sit through the member update. We had an update on an earlier trip this year and didn’t want to go through another with our family in attendance. We were pushed into it and then everyone was frustrated when we didn’t upgrade—exactly like we said was going to happen. Too much pressure is put on the employees to get these every single time, even when you explicitly state you aren’t going to sit through it on this visit. Not fun to end on this note. Again, we love FA and this property, but will wait until the beach is open— or pay a more reasonable fee with prior knowledge. We will visit again just to see the staff and enjoy the excellent service once things are more normal. The property is in need of some slight upgrades, particularly the Explorean pool, but that’s not surprising given the pandemic. Shout-out to the excellent staff, including: Roberto, Rubi, and Alfonso at Explorean (LOVE) Samuel, Aaron, Miguel, Gabriel, and entire Rosato staff (Italian restaurant is fantastic!) at FA Entire tour guide staff- always delightful and helpful. Carlos went above and beyond for our family time. My 81-year-old mother loves Cozumel and we were thrilled to get another vacation there with her. We hope to enjoy this with her for several more years. Thanks to FA for all the love that was shown to her. We will be back. Does not live up to promises
After reading all the wonderful reviews I was very happy for my trip to the Explorian. I have stated at the Riu Palace and several Dream resorts throughout Mexico. What sold me to try to Explorian was the great food and of course the excursions. The hotel did not live up to their promises and I found it to be a mid range hotel, so would not recommend. Pros: Great food and some wonderful staff. I liked the concept of staying in the back of the other hotel in the quiet more upscale area. Snorkeling was great right off the beach. My room was very well kept. Cons: They made me go to a crazy sales pitch and wanted to buy into their time share. Refused to take no for an answer. If we wanted to snorkel as an excursion then we had to listen to this silly sales pitch. Mildew and mold in the rooms. In fact nothing dried ever and my clothes smelled for a couple of washes when I got home. Hot tub was never working and the pool was dirty with debris and murkey. No thanks. Oh the excursions they promised. They let us paddle board and go to a chocolate making demonstration. I want to bike, go on the buggies, snorkel. Nope not offered that week. I think if they pulled through on the excursions I would of been much happier. Communication is not good due to the language barrier for most Americans. At times the staff seemed to he annoyed to help guests. Overall I do not recommend andxwon to er if all those great reviews are invested in the time share. We love Mexico and will be back. Probably not the Explorian. After reading all the wonderful reviews I was very happy for my trip to the Explorian. I have stated at the Riu Palace and several Dream resorts throughout Mexico. Absolutely perfect
I have stayed at a variety of Fiesta Americana locations over the years, but this was my first time at one of their Explorean properties. It was absolutely perfect. Our room was clean and very comfortable, and we enjoyed the morning delivery basket so that we could have a relaxing mini breakfast of juice, coffee, and banana bread on our balcony each morning. I loved the balance of quiet peacefulness and daily activities. There was plenty of space to relax quietly by the pool, or I could cross over to the Fiesta Americana side if I wanted a more interactive pool experience (trivia, dancing lessons, bingo, etc.). The daily Explorean activities were fantastic and led by wonderful professionals — extra shout-out to Carlos and Ruben for their hard work! We went snorkeling from the beach and from a boat, kayaked, rode bikes and buggies, tasted chocolate and tequila, etc. The food was excellent, as was the service. I cannot recommend Explorean highly enough! I have stayed at a variety of Fiesta Americana locations over the years, but this was my first time at one of their Explorean properties. Incredible!
We just stayed at the Explorean Cozumel for ten days. It’s all inclusive aside from tips (expect to leave approx $300 to $600) . The beds super comfy. Very quiet in the rooms. No TVs but that’s okay! They fill the days with many included activities and cannot do enough to make you happy. We chose the pool/snorkeling/biking/tequila tour/sea kayaking and private beach with trinket shopping. (and chose to pay for the Aquatic submarine and saw a huge loggerhead turtle and a 1943 shipwreck. ) A shout out to our incredible concierge Darwin our am/pm coffee bar girl, our tour guides Hector Julio Carlos Rueben and Henry. You get a basket delivered to your door each morning with coffee juice and muffin. Nice touch. There were five available options for breakfast lunch and dinner. There is never a shortage of food. Poolside, Asian (our favorite) Mexican, the Grill and Italian. The jungle surrounds the property and the Carribean is 20 yards in front of the pool. Whereas I think they have extremely talented kitchen staff, we are spoiled in America by better quality produce and meats. Also it looks s all inclusive. A ribeye here is no where near an select American ribeye . We travel often and try not to hit the same place twice but we will definitely be back here! Two Weeks in Paradise
This was our 4th year going to The Explorean. We love the small, friendly, family like environment of this hidden gem. The moment you arrive the front lobby begins the welcoming process, cold towels, welcome drinks, and the stress of every day begins to wash away. The room is spacious and quiet. The bar is fully stocked with name brands. The restaurant is a special place for us as Alfonso and Ruby are always ready to take great care of us. Alfonso is a master at creating a special dinner or dessert. Fiesta Americana is in front of the smaller Explorean. Staying at Explorean grants you full access to Fiesta Americana. The staff there is also fantastic. Special thanks to Lucio, Eduardo, and Hermanio. The buffet, Italian, Mexican, Asian, Coffee Corner, Sushi Bar and snacks around the pool, give you ample choices for each meal. Special thanks to Wendy, Saul, and Belau, you guys made it very enjoyable from beginning to end. We'll be back!! This was our 4th year going to The Explorean.
