Amazing views
Remote...you can only get to it by boat. They will help you arrange parking, but it isn't free. We also waited a long time to get out since we were boxed in the back she we wanted to leave. Restaurant is just OK and found is pricey for what you get. Bring snacks and skip dinner. There is a microwave and fridge in your room. Pool and hot tub are great. Property is well maintained and staff is friendly and helpful. One person on staff could speak English. Hot water was difficult to regulate. Not all beds were comfortable. One of ours was very hard so our friend slept on the couch which also was uncomfortable. The only wifi is in the hotel office so plan on disconnecting while you are here. The nearest town is San Antonio and it is a Charming town nestled into a hill side. Less filled with tourists and expats than other villages I've visited at the lake. Known for their ceramics...shops will explain their process and give you a tour. Beautiful volcano views from this town. You can drive to San Antonio from Pana but it is slow going. Part of the road is paved but not all of it. Don't go on any secondary roads in the town even if Google maps tells you too!!!! Roads are too narrow for cars to get through. Beautiful pearl on the shore of Lake Atitlan
This place was cheap to book, the number supplied by RCI couldn’t reach the management of resort. Sorted out travel to resort on own took 4+ hours to get to from airport. Needed to get boat from resort to pick up from closest town. Meals were excellent and facilities were well kept. WiFi only in lobby and restaurant but usually worked well. View was spectacular, tour included to nearby villages. Pleasant staff, always there to help. Resort is secluded so if you want many activities recommend only staying here a few days and staying somewhere else too during your trip. If you want to spend time with spouse then it’s perfectly private and gorgeous view. The management assisted in return to airport when we left. Very kind and fair. The Perfect Getaway
Atitlan Villas provided the perfect getaway for our family trip in May 2018. This resort is an isolated getaway and is the pearl of Lake Atitlan. TRANSPORTATION We arrived at the Guatemala City Airport and were greeted by Mario, the Manager of the resort, who was holding a sign to greet us. Mario had agreed to pick us up at the airport for 140 USD, which was a great deal for an air conditioned, comfortable vehicle and a three to four hour drive! We arrived at the marina in San Lucas Toliman where Augustine, one of the staff at the resort, picked us up on the boat and drove us to the resort. Mario also drove us back to the airport at the same price following our stay. Given that Mario took the "coastal" route on our way in, he graciously offered to take the "mountain" route on the way back. The Mountain route was a little longer, but provided amazing views of Lake Atitlan and various towns along the way (San Antonio Palopo, Santa Catarina Palopo, Panajachel, Solola, and Chimaltenango). ROOM We stayed in one of the two villas located directly above the main office. Our room had two single beds and one king bed. The room also had a balcony with two chairs and a table, a flat screen TV, a large chair, a couch, a coffee maker, a microwave, a mini fridge and filtered water. The bathroom was spacious, had a large standing shower, lots of towels, soaps and shampoos, and a hairdryer. The staff cleaned the room daily, accommodated as many towel exchanges as we needed, and provided us with limitless bottled water! RESORT ACTIVITIES The resort has a pool and a hot-tub. The pool was spacious and had a shallow and deep end. The hot-tub was heated using solar panels on the roof of the restaurant. To that end, the hot tub is best used in the afternoon into the early evening. There are a handful of lounge chairs with cushions, quilted chairs and folding chairs around the grounds. There are two hammocks overlooking the lake that were relaxing and perfectly situated to pick-up the sound of the water hitting the shore. Atitlan Villas also provided Kayaks that were available to be used. There was a well-equipped fitness facility located directly next to the main office. It had two treadmills, an elliptical, a bike, two rowing-style machines, one set of free-weights, a skipping rope, an exercise ball and two yoga mats. There was also a sauna on site. During our stay one of the elements was being repaired so it couldn't reach its full heat, but it was situated close to our rooms and felt authentic. Located on the mountain-side behind the resort is a walking path that leads to San Antonio Palopo. Visitors should be warned that this hike is not for the faint-of-heart or physically challenged. It was steep and covered in small stones that made the descent extremely slippery. It takes approximately two hours to hike to San Antonio Palopo. I would recommend that only those with a high level of physical fitness attempt this hike in full and that sunscreen, water, and hats be used, along with hiking boots. DAY TRIPS The resort offered a boat rental (driver included) for the day. The boat ride includes a ride across the lake to three towns: San Juan, San Pedro and Santiago. You can rent a tuk tuk in San Juan to take you to four cooperatives (cotton/textile, honey, chocolate and medicinal herbs) for Q75 per person, which was a great experience to better understand some of the local industry and treat ourselves to real chocolate! RESTAURANT The resort offers an all inclusive meal plan for 58 USD per day. This included breakfast, lunch, dinner and drinks (beer, a few mixed drinks, wine, and various non-alcoholic drinks). Jerry, the chef, left for a new opportunity during our stay and was replaced by a new chef, Maria. Both Jerry and Maria were extremely accommodating regarding our dietary needs. I am a vegan and two others in my family are vegetarians who occasionally eat fish. During the week I consistently felt full and my dietary needs were fully met. The team in the restaurant was also flexible regarding meal requests. For example, a few days into our trip we mentioned that we love fresh tortillas. The next day fresh tortillas began accompanying our meal! The chef even made me tacos that included fresh tortillas, guacamole, and textured soy protein; and put together a vegan hot chocolate with dark chocolate and almond milk! SERVICE Overall, the staff at the resort were incredibly helpful, professional and friendly (if the owners are reading this review: Mario deserves a raise). Maria, one of the staff, set-up a display of her hand sown cotton fabrics that were for sale. They were intricate and reasonably priced. Augustine even visited San Juan for us during the latter portion of our trip to purchase additional chocolate because we ate all of ours during the first visit. This is by way the most outstanding service I have even seen on a vacation. Mario, Sandra, Maria, Maria, Augustine, Jerry, and Luciano were all incredibly helpful, kind and helped to make this one of the best vacations to date! IMPORTANT COSIDERATIONS The units at the resort require one to walk-up at least a few flights of stairs. It's important that those booking a vacation here are able to walk-up stairs. This resort is the perfect hideaway from the outside world. While connected by boat, it's important that visitors understand that this is the perfect place for rest and relaxation. To that end, a few games and a book may prove helpful for visitors. TL;DR Atitlan Villas is deserving of its five star reviews. Its staff are outstanding, its facilities are modern and well kept, and it's an oasis that's perfect for some much needed time away! Welcomed seclusion
As previously well described, this charming oasis on the Lake is tranquil and serene with no distractions. Take a kayak and lose yourself in the middle of Atitlán. Mario and Jerry attend to every need in a timely and gracious manner. Everything was perfect including pick up in Guatemala City and all of the boat rides from the Villa to the various towns were on schedule and perfect. Breakfast and dinner were adequate and we ate lunch on our daily excursions outside the villas. Immaculate pool, hot tub, sauna and spacious accommodations made for an absolutely wonderful 4 night stay. I highly recommend Atitlán Villas. Beautiful & Relaxing place to stay
Our friends and us stayed here for several days. Very beautiful views, great rooms, a sauna, workout room, and restaurant on the property. They could add some games to the rooms. We did have a nice tv in the main room of our two bedroom villa.Very accommodating! Highly recommend. Our friends and us stayed here for several days.
