Typical Local Chinese Tourist Hotel
Good for low budgets and want to be near OLD TOWN (30 min walk). Bath facility is poor and morning call not available. Hot water not availabe whole day. Front staff speaks mandarin. Only a few local restaurants near by but there is a local food street (preferably for chinese language conversant visitors). Good for low budgets and want to be near OLD TOWN (30 min walk). Good hotel to explore Lijiang and surrounding areas
We stayed in this hotel for a week in August on a RCI exchange and found it very convenient to explore Lijiang. No complaints other than that the wifi is only available at the lobby. What we like most about it is its location - it is just outside the mayhem around the Old Town and it has a bus stop just outside. We find the buses in Lijiang very convenient especially when taxis hardly go by the meter and fares are arbitrary e.g. from the Dayan Ancient City back to the hotel, we paid different prices for several trips - CNY8, CNY20, CNY30. However do note that the buses operate until 9 p.m. only and that's when the taxis rule! Although the Old Town is within walking distance, we were happy to use Bus No. 8 (CNY1), a loopline, to explore it and the city. If I remember correctly, it also goes to the long distance bus terminal and the Lijiang railway station. A taxi ride to the railway station will cost CNY40 but with Bus No. 16 from the hotel, it only cost CNY1! The bus fare is paid upon boarding into the fare box beside the driver. However only some No. 16 buses goes to the Railway Station - look out for the sign in red displayed at the front of the bus or just ask the driver before boarding. There are many local eateries nearby and along the street at the side of the hotel. Our favourite was a road side steam boat stall a short walk away. Walk left from the hotel along the main road (Shanggeli/Shangri-la Avenue) to the trafic lights and turn left at the crossroads into a street with a big Arch. Lots of little eateries here, at the end of this lane turn right and look out for the steam boat stall where the chicken soup is really tasty with fresh mushrooms/vegetables/fish etc. Along Shanggeli Avenue at the above mentioned traffic lights, there is also a morning market in the right lane. With a bit of Mandarin, we really enjoyed out stay in Lijiang. Hope this information is helpful to someone.
