Waikiki Banyan - SWEETWATER AT WAIKIKI

We recently stayed at the Sweetwater at Waikiki located at the Waikiki Banyan. The one bedroom unit was very spacious. King size bed was comfortable. There is also a pull down bed if you have more than 2 guests. It has Hawaiian themed furnishings. The ladies at the registration office were friendly and efficient. Always a smile. Made it a wonderful Aloha experience. We stayed at a unit with partial ocean view. Nice! Kitchen has everything we needed for quick breakfast before we head out to whatever we planned to do for the day. There are no washer and dryer inside the unit but they are available for a small fee (coin operated) on each level of the property. The pool, jacuzzi or sauna were open for guests to enjoy. BBQ grills were also available but there is a $2 fee per hour to use them. The location is great! Short block to Kuhio Beach, many restaurants and shops. The office also has beach chairs, umbrellas, books, boogie boards etc for the guests to use free of charge. FREE parking is also included. Pleasantly Suprised!

The Hawaiian Sun Holiday Timeshare exchange was great! The staff which consisted of Jessica and Jennifer was top notch. I was assigned to a unit on the 11th floor which had a view of Diamond Head. The kitchen was large enough to prepare meals in and although there was no dishwasher having extra space to store groceries was great. Eating out can get very expensive in Waikiki. The one bedroom unit consisted of a comfy king size bed which closed off from the living area via sliding doors. In the living area was a pull down Murphy bed which was not comfortable. There are several timeshare companies that has units in the Waikiki Banyan. Please note that this review is only about Hawaiian Sun Holidays. One item that was not mentioned on the RCI page is that Hawaiian Sun Holiday units come with a parking space. What a bonus! Waikiki parking can get very expensive. I had my choice of fancy smancy timeshares and when I looked at the additional fees and parking choose The Hawaiian Sun as it was finically a much better option for me. The check in also had an area that had items one could borrow such as boogie boards and beach chairs on the honor system. Nice touch! The Waikiki Banyan may not be luxurious but the location is great! A short walk gets you to the Beach and many, many restaurants and food venues. Very happy I chose Hawaiian Sun! Property GREAT, beware of 3rd party property management.

Da Scene: Very fortunate to remote work from Northern California for a month to be home for the holidays. Spent 1st 3 weeks where else... da Banyan! Fond memories not just of weekend get-togethers of my youth, but several family stays over the years, the Waikiki Banyan has never disappointed. Da Stay: 1st 3 weeks of December 2020 was picture perfect weather, with daily sunrises and sunsets that just stunned you. We rarely cooked, mostly re-heated stuff, patronizing the many small businesses offering in Waikiki and Kaimuki. Onsite the pool, coffee shop and grocery store were great, only missing ICE, had to hit Longs or Foodland. 1 block from Waikiki beaches, steps form high-end and plate lunch dining. I honestly can't think of a better locale. Da Service: Staff were always helpful, safety was paramount. Security, Front Desk, store staff were all great. Although capacity did rise just before Christmas (lots of people all of a sudden) and we moved to another property for the last leg of our trip. Elevator rides varied with some patrons choosing to break protocols... not the facility's fault. On booking... BE CAREFUL. We were in unit 2014, a prime corner spot. We've booked all sorts of properties through VRBO and this was the 1st time we had any issues. They have always been great. 3rd party booking mgt. was RED Awning and I will NOT be booking any properties managed by them again. Ask if the property is actually managed by the owner or or another mgt. company. Will post separately for VRBO (thumbs UP) and Red Awning (thumbs DOWN). Condo rentals through VRBO normally GREAT, this time handled 3rd party via Red Awning and was TERRIBLE... be careful. Specific unit 2014 was as advertised, but had several issues with sofabed practically broken, initial lanai cleanliness, coffeemaker, but the property location, staff and amenities can't be beat for the $$. Roger Cundall (owner and property lessor) of 201 Ohua #3406 #2 Honolulu, HI 96815 Waikiki Branyan

Curt and abrupt with correspondence prior to and arriving and occupation in Waikiki. Confusing correspondence. Email header said Tony was host/ owner. Then we were advised it was actually Roger. Tony was the gardener. Then we dealt with another mystery person only identified as Roger’s assistant. Ad said housed 6 people. Owner claimed only 5. We were subsequently charged for extra children over 5 pax inc 2 year old infant at full nightly rate. Owner then decided to cancel accommodation on the day of our arrival leaving us high and dry in foreign country with 5 children without accommodation upon landing in Oahu. Owner claimed he deducted $145 USD as cancellation penalty also (despite fact he initiated cancellation). However in reality owner retained $190 USD approx and then refused to return funds and then subsequently shut down communications. Prior to this owner openly spoke disparagingly about accommodation provider and booking platform VRBO/ Home and Away whom we have nothing but utter praise and appreciation for assisting us navigate this distressing start to our holiday and whom in the end assisted us resolve it no thanks to the owner. Very disappointed, unfriendly, unwelcoming and a distressing way to commence a much anticipated and saved for family holiday.
