Need improvement
Conceptually hotel has great value and abilities to give traveler that many hotels on island don’t have. Private pool, kitchen and separation from others. Close approximation to couple beaches, It would be mind blowing if units would be maintain and had updates to have higher level of furnishings. We had unit that they use as photo model but those photos were done 20 year ago. It need modifications and some renovation Conceptually hotel has great value and abilities to give traveler that many hotels on island don’t have. Private pool, kitchen and separation from others. The Island is still a 3rd world country:
The villa we stayed in was pretty nice overall. The owner of the unit was very nice and helpful, however, the management at the site apparently does not know how to run a hotel. Our pool turned dark green. This is algae. There is mainly only one way for that to happen. The filtration system either does not work properly or is only turned on for a very, very limited amount of time. Either way, we lost at least two full days of using the pool at a place called; Pools and Pavilions. My younger son got a pretty bad rash on his body from the pool and had to take Benadryl and cortisone cream and is still on it. The grounds of the hotel need massive work and the place needs a major facelift. The place is a throwback to the 60's and never updated. Also, it should be noted, the island is like a 3rd world country. We used to travel to St. Thomas a lot back in the late 90's and it was wonderful. I don't know what happened to this island but good luck if you travel there. The price of gas, food, t-shirts, ice cream, etc. is totally out of bounds. If you think that the price of things here in the states are bad; and they have gotten bad over the past 6 months, its nothing like St. Thomas. We went out for ice cream one night and got four cones and it came to $34!!!!! I never saw a simple hamburger for less than $14 and if you want a cocktail, take out a home equity loan. When travelling home, the airlines at the St. Thomas airport said that my airline ticket was not in their system and I had no seat. That took over an hour to fix. The couple next to us in line was from South Dakota and they told us they flew in on Wednesday and left on that Thursday. Less than 24 hours. They said that they never saw such a bad island like St. Thomas. They also thought that it was like a 3rd world country. All I have to say is; Good luck if your traveling there. You will need it and bring TONS of cash or credit cards, you will need it. The villa we stayed in was pretty nice overall. Family vacation
I booked a unit at Pavilion and Pools for 5 days through Airbnb. The unit where we were supposed to stay got " water damage", therefore, we got offered another unit and were told that the units are the same. Nothing even close. On a third day of staying there I was pretty much done. The unit that we stayed in didn't have simple kitchen supplies (only one small pot and pan), holes in a walls, ants, old disgusting furniture and damp smelling bedding, small barely working air condition unit and water damage on a walls from pool which looked like didn't get any maintenance attention for a while. When I mentioned situation about the pool to service desk they told me that they will contact pool service but nobody came. The washer and dryer didn't work in laundry room so we couldn't do our laundry. The pictures on Pavilion and pools are misleading. I wouldn't never stay again in that place and wouldn't recommend it to anyone. I booked a unit at Pavilion and Pools for 5 days through Airbnb. My month in St. Thomas
Rented a villa on Airbnb stayed a month. The island was still rebuilding from the restaurant. Great location you can walk to the beach and bars. The restaurant wasn't open yet when i was there but it looked awesome. Rented a villa on Airbnb stayed a month. The island was still rebuilding from the restaurant. A bit tired but still awesome potential
This was our second visit to P & P...quite a few years and a couple of hurricanes between. The last time we stayed on the side away from the main road but this time we were close to the road. Here's my overall goods and bads. It's a long walk from the parking lot to the units on the far end...is what it is :). Access to the lower exit to walk to Sapphire Beach was excellent, also made loading our rental car on our last day a lot easier :) The unit, like most of them, is showing it's age a bit but all in all it's still pretty great. Having your own pool right outside the bedroom was great, water was clean and clear...but also colder than we expected but hey, it was the first week of December. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom was great other than too few electrical outlets. Closet and chests for storing clothes was good, Kitchen was good overall but did lack a lot in utensils and such...poorly equipped but it worked OK for us with a few purchases at the grocery, the living room area was good with the exception that the furniture was extremely uncomfortable and way outdated...as in the 60's. The couch was about to come apart (see pics) and the one chair was like a brick, TV was great, breakfast/dinning table was fine even though the chairs were a bit different. Overall, the interior was great except for the living room seating area. The overall condition was good...not great mind you but good. There was evidence of some wood deterioration around the windows...LOTS of glass by the way. Pool area was great, lounge furniture was fine, towels and such were also good. My one real disappointment was the "privacy". Our first visit gave us an extremely private outside pool area so that you could pretty much go about as you wanted. This unit was open to the tree side at ground level and on more than one occasion the maintenance guy just walked right up...plus men working on the wall or even trucks driving by had a pretty full view of the pool area...so no going about "au natural" unless you want an audience. The lack of privacy to us was a bit of a big deal with no real way to fix it. The overall facility is still being rebuilt in places following the 2017 storms...which we were aware of when we booked...no on-site restaurant or bar type thing but hey, the grocery sells all kinds of good food and good liquor so not major. I love the place and the concept...just wish we'd have the level of privacy that we had on our first visit. I do recommend P & P but would suggest that if you want any outside privacy that you should stay away from the row of units on the front side. All that said...it's a great place to fall in love or rekindle your love...but then that's what USVI is to me anyway!
