Beautiful Resort with great staff
Had a great time because of this resort. We never took a trip out of the country as a couple prior to this. We went for wedding but extended the stay to enjoy a little time away- best choice we’ve made in a long long time. First: the staff were amazing. Our personal concierges, Jaime and Pearl, were amazing. We had a little problem with our activity bookings prior to when we checked in. Jaime and Pearl told us not to worry- and they were right. They fixed all the issues and gave us great suggestions. They were absolutely amazing. All the staff are very friendly, tried to help us with our Spanish, and most of the staff knew multiple languages (which is a plus!). Second: the place is beautiful. The facility is very well landscaped and kept up to high standards. We went at a “down time” and the place was stunning. We went to a party one night and expected the place to still have the tables and chairs up the next morning- nope. It was all cleaned before 6am (morning people). My only gripe was the artificial reef they constructed makes some photos a little “rough” of the ocean. The plus side to the reef is we saw plenty of marine life up and down the shore. So take the good with the bad Third: food was great! Wide variety of food of all sorts. We went from having traditional Mexican plates to sushi, continental breakfasts to drinking from a coconut. Fourth: reservations. The only “let-down” of the trip was not being able to do the dinner-show at fuentas. We instead had a private dinner on the beach (they had two options- candlelight or moonlight- we did moonlight). Every meal was great. The only sticking point is- GET RESERVATIONS! We heard from other people we were there with (like I said- there for a wedding) who were unhappy with not being able to get a table wherever or whenever they wanted. The restaurants at the resort didn’t seem to be running at full capacity (something about global pandemic or something) so the tables were more spread out- but less of them than most normal restaurants which means GET A RESERVATION. Our concierges helped us plan each dinner and told us the best places. Sit down with them day 1 or 2 and just make a plan for your trip. Does it put you on a regiment? Yes but you’ll have a better time Fifth: room service. Fast, easy and good food. Not much more to say about them. Sixth: the bar drinks were good. Some of their bar tenders are clearly more trained, but all were fast and did good jobs. Some drinks weren’t amazing because of the pour but you could always ask for another one and the bartenders were happy to change up the order or make it again. Seventh: the events during the day are great! Please do them! You’re missing out id you don’t. We picked out an activity a day to do. Our favorite was the tequila tasting- which not only was a tasting of tequila- but a lesson on it too! We learned how to buy tequila (even back home in the states), the types of tequila and even bought a rare bottle (which then they helped us how to clear customs on the way home too!) Last thing I can remember- most of the activities or room service could be done or booked through an app on your phone. Made the life of an introvert much better. It also was nice to just be able to look at the daily schedule, or order room service from an app rather than calling and hoping someone heard you right TL;DR- fantastic place for a getaway. Casitas never fail us.
One of the great things about being at the Casitas is the awesome Butler Service. Something you just can’t put a price on, and of course the excellent food and drinks. The Bartenders at 32 are always on spot as well. We’ve been there a few times over the years and the consistently of service and professional attitude remain intact. It was like coming home to see family and friends again. Of course we will be back and will hope for Hugo and Alexis for Butler service. Wedding Guests
Arrived on a Wednesday for a Friday wedding. First time visitors, we had room 1725 on Casita side , without children, third floor balcony, friends at same price on ground level had personal pool patios. We never figured out the pricing for differing rooms Arrived on a Wednesday for a Friday wedding. Quiet, couples, luxury……not the place to get it
Looking for a quiet, couples, luxury holiday with pool & swim up bar for Casitas guests only, first class restaurants? Well look elsewhere as this isn’t the place to find it. Don’t get me wrong, the casitas we had was great, (mostly), well maintained, very clean and of a good size with great showers, huge bath, pillow menu, comfy bed, veranda, housekeepers were great. The grounds are lovely, so well maintained and looked after. The grounds staff do a fantastic job and need a mention, everywhere is very clean, even to the extent of sweeping the paths of sand or water. The casitas pool initially was good, decent size, comfy ish loungers, lots of towels, good selection of drinks at the swim up bar, quiet, perfect for relaxing and whiling away a few hours. As the days went by more and more people descended upon the pool and the bar, quickly became evident they were from the party section of El Dorado. Oh, didn’t I mention the fact that Royale Casitas are sandwiched between a family hotel at one end of the complex and an adults only ‘party loving’ hotel at the other end. Yes! this wasn’t clear at time of booking but after further digging we found this info out. Not a problem though as the Royale Casitas make a point of saying the pools are only for casitas guests and the restaurants are only for adults (except two in the family complex that casitas guests can use as they are gourmet inclusive). Hahaha what a joke! Every day there were visitors from the other hotels ‘enjoying’ the pool, inflatables a plenty, music blasting and them screeching and shouting, drinking more and more. When we asked the bar staff if anyone could use the pool they confirmed it was only Casitas guests and they make a point of asking visitors their room numbers……….ummm, no you don’t, on the odd occasion you do and you get told a room that is not in the casitas you ignore that and serve them anyway, nice to see a few dollars makes you deaf and blind. There were a few days that there were so many ‘visitors’ we left the pool as we couldn’t relax, couldn’t hear ourselves think either, one day in excess of 20 visitors who took over every area, shouting and congregating around the loungers we were using, very intimidating so we moved to the beach. So, onto the restaurants, you get told on check in that you don’t need to book for all of them, well it’s best if you do as chances of getting a table is sometimes difficult and sometimes you have a long wait, and get confirmation when you book them. We asked the concierge for a table to be booked, on asking the concierge later if it had been booked we were told yes only to get to the restaurant to find no booking (3 occasions). Not all concierges but ours seemed to say what we wanted to hear.. Dress code…..forget about taking it to heart, you can pretty much wear what you want. We saw people in flip flops, vest tops, ultra short shorts, hats, when the dress code states not acceptable. Some people get turned away but rarely. And on 3 occasions there were kids in the adults only restaurants, seriously, if you have rules then stick to them, enforce them. Food, at best it was warm, not the greatest in any restaurant but we couldn’t rave about any of it. If you want a relaxed meal with a break between courses I suggest telling the waiting staff when you order, but even then the next course is quick to come out, or the next course is cold where it’s been sat around. The best option is to order first course, then say you will order next course after you finish. You get a fair break and the food is slightly warmer. If you like deserts be prepared to be blown away………..by the amount of gelatine that is used. Wow, the deserts are so claggy or rubbery it’s unbelievable. None are that nice and obviously bought in from the Mexican Iceland or Farm Food equivalent! I would just like to make it clear, this review is of my experiences, I appreciate other peoples ideas of a holiday is different. We booked for a quiet relaxing holiday and it was far from that, even after speaking to the concierge and them confirming there shouldn’t be that much noise, no one in the pool area who shouldn’t be and no kids in the adult only restaurants, nothing changed.
