You will likely be sorry right now..... wait until late 2022 for them to finish building and staffing!
I'm sure this Divi can be made to be a great place to go, but they are not there yet. While up until the last month or so, they had been advertising being fully operational (all inclusive, etc), our trip the week of 11/21-28 proved that was no where near the case. Right now, it is not much more than a very remotely located, very basic hotel with a view. Booked the trip in Aug 2021 for our honeymoon in Nov 2021. Loved the all inclusive idea and the fact it was adults only. I was contacted a month later saying they could not offer food or drink inclusive services but all other services and amenities would be good to go and was assured that the rooms has ample facilities for food/drink storage and preparation. Of course I had to use any refund we got back for the food/drink services to pay for a rental car since the closest restaurant or store was a good 30 minute drive away. Here is the main list of issues: 1. Restaurants closed (except for a small snack bar...good for breakfast sandwiches or a pre-boxed salad, but limited hours) 2. Bars closed (except for casino up the street) 3. TV in rooms don't work 4. Phones in rooms don't work 5. WiFi in rooms doesn't work 6. No useful food storage or prep facilities in the rooms 7. Room servicing requested every day but only received twice in 7 day stay 8. Room servicing only restocked things on one of those two visits 9. Asked to have new room closer to the lobby (since we wanted WiFi and were constantly going there for restocking items) but was told nothing available. Ok, the place appears to have 100's of rooms and we were 1 of perhaps 10-15 guests. The place was VERY empty. 10. Hot water in shower or sink has to be run for 20 minutes (yep, not kidding....20 minutes) before it actually becomes warm/hot. What a waist, especially on an island that, I'm told, relies on desalinization for it's water source. The thing I am MOST upset about is that I believe we were directly lied to about the services and amenities available and current condition of the resort. It was a lot of extra work on our part to actually stay at this "all inclusive resort" On the good side, the pool and deck area was nice and kept clean and tidy. Everyone we spoke to was nice even though they seemed powerless to resolve issues and only had excuses to offer. I'm sure this Divi can be made to be a great place to go, but they are not there yet. CANCEL YOUR TRIP
My boyfriend and I had a trip planned to the Divi since February of 2021. It has always been advertised as all-inclusive on their website starting October 2021. I was getting super excited for our trip and decided to read a review. I read that the resort didn’t seem to be all-inclusive anymore. I then go to Divi’s website and it says “ALL-INCLUSIVE FEBRUARY 2022”. You’d think they would email everyone who already had this trip booked prior to that date to let them no it’s no longer inclusive. But nope. This is a scam please cancel your trip before you make the mistake of going and wasting your money. They should have emailed everyone who already booked a trip expecting it to be all inclusive but instead they are trying to scam people and take their money! Not bad, not amazing…somewhere in between.
It was okay. Not bad, not amazing, but still good. We stayed 4 days in St. Croix and while we had a good time, Divi Carina Bay is more of a “nice beachside hotel” than it is a “luxury resort”. The place has lots of potential and will likely get better over time, but it’s not the greatest place we’ve ever stayed. The staff was excellent, but the “resort” itself still has a way to go before it can be considered luxury. Read on for all the specifics: Location - 2/5 This place is far. It costs $20-$25 per person EACH WAY from the airport to the hotel (and most other areas to the hotel). It’s a 30-40 minute drive from major areas that include steep curves and long roads (if you’re driving). It’s a nice, scenic ride, but, the location is quite inconvenient and a bit remote…if you’re planning to do much of anything. Food & Activities- 1/5 There is NO food, other than the casino (where the food is not good). There’s a cafe on the property that serves coffee, tea, light breakfast items, but the breakfast sandwiches - literally a heated Jimmy Dean packaged breakfast sandwich- was around $7. There are no activities in the area. The casino is considered an activity, yes, but it’s not a full-service casino. We didn’t find any tables, card nor skill; there were only slot machines options. The Room Experience, Overall - 4/5 The room was honestly pretty gorgeous. Almost perfect, really. The hotel has recently undergone a MAJOR makeover with room renovations that definitely give it a luxury feel. The bathroom had a rainfall shower head, the decor in the room says “resort” and it certainly looked and felt the part. The only feedback that holds me back from giving the room experience a 5 is the fact the doors are all pretty much misaligned, slightly and there are literally three channels. There’s space underneath and around each front door that bugs can crawl in from outside. This didn’t happen often, but it did happen. Basically, if you’re standing outside the room and the lights are on, you can clearly see because of the spacing around the door. This isn’t a huge deal, but it counts when a hotel is trying to become a luxury resort. Also, our sliding door outside to the patio was misaligned, allowing a mosquito or two to come in from the water. We called the front desk when we noticed it a requested a new room, but the staff member told us she would send maintenance. We said that the issue didn’t seem like a quick fix and wanted to move before we got settled, but she insisted. The maintenance man came…the next day. Regarding the channels, this is a small deal, but it’s nice to have some variety when you’re relaxing in bed at night. Sleep Quality - 3/5 The beds are hard. The air works great in the room and it feels lovely, but the beds are VERY firm. Overall Cleanliness - 4/5 The hotel is extremely clean from what we experienced. The lobby and the patio are pristine. One of our friends stayed in another room and noticed some not-so-great things around the bathroom and baseboards, like dust, a dead bug, and some less-than-perfect cleaning in general, but our room was great. (We didn’t get any housekeeping during out stay; there wasn’t any explanation, but we assume it’s COVID-related? We were told the rooms would be refreshed every two days, but ours weren’t) Safety of Area - 5/5 It’s pretty far out from the rest of St. Croix so it felt safe to us. We didn’t have any issues. Customer Service - 5/5 With the exception of the staff member who said she was sending maintenance and didn’t send him until the next day (we called her around 4pm and he showed up the next day at 9), we had some amazing experiences with staff. Davis was kind enough to drive us in the cart to our rooms or to the casino if we needed to grab something to eat. Angela, the manager made sure we felt heard about any concerns and was extremely attentive to us during out stay, always greeting us in passing when she saw us around. Judith helped us check in and was really friendly. She gave us recommendations on what to do while we were in town and helped us rent a car. Overall, the staff was excellent and so kind! We have nothing but positive things to say about the team here. Ambiance - 4/5 Although we were looking for a little more to do, we really did enjoy the vibe of the place. The patio near the lobby at night is a great place to hang out and talk or enjoy the sound of the waves and the pool was relaxing. The lobby is nice, updated, and has that “modern resort” feel to it that we loved. There’s also a rum punch greeting at check-in that was delicious. Value For Money - 3/5 We paid around $800 for 3 nights. While that’s not atypical of the area - St. Croix and most of the Virgin Islands are expensive compared to what you might get elsewhere in the Caribbean-, we still felt that the value wasn’t as good as it could have been. We got a discount, about $400 total, because the hotel isn’t operating as all-inclusive right now so the “regular” price would have been $1200 for 3 nights. Right now, taking in to account the location, the missing details that come with “luxury”, and the complete absence of food and activities, the value for cost feels like something’s out of balance. WOULD I RETURN? Honestly, I don’t see a return trip to St. Croix in my future because there isn’t a lot to, but as for the hotel itself…I would return. I really think that once the place gets “up and running” and has places to eat, some drinks, things to do…once they work out the minor kinks, I think it’ll be a nice place. It’ll also increase the value of what’s being offered at the price. It’s has lots of potential and I don’t regret staying here. It was okay. Not bad, not amazing, but still good. Loved it.
We just spent 12 days at Carina Bay. Next year will be all inclusive but right now it was Hotel only, and had very few Hotel guests since they're not fully operational. For us that was perfect because we were looking for something that didn't have crowds, hustle-bustle, nightlife Etc. We stayed in the hillside Suite rooms, which was an upgrade. It was a wonderful room, very comfortable, nice kitchen, and had a pool for just the hillside Suites. The huge drawback is we had 37 steps to get to our room. So yep every time we left our room or came back it was 37 steps. Other than that it was perfect. What's really outstanding on this hotel is the staff. I'm talking about from General Manager on down to housekeeping and general labor. Every person we encountered was exceptional. Friendly, nice, helpful, and always willing to go out of their way for us. They worked very hard at keeping the beach clean, most people know the sargassum problem is huge. Fortunately when we were there it was starting to get better so we could use the beach and the ocean, and water was super warm. The pool for the hillside Suites and the pool for the other part of the resort were both open and very nice. Lots of lounge chairs although not needed with so few people, clean, nice water. We are really eager to go back next spring when they have their all inclusive operational. Carina Bay is located on the opposite side of the Island from most tourism. If you're the type of person that wants bars, restaurants, shopping, then don't come here. It's very isolated, you would need to rent a car if you want to go anywhere else. They have a casino that my husband and I really enjoyed, we were there about 10 times. The casino is about a ten-minute walk, although they always shuttled us using a golf cart which was so nice. A few people that really stood out is Dyal the GM, Angela the front desk manager, and Edmund, Jordan, Oleencia, and Kessoon. Thanks to all for a great trip. We just spent 12 days at Carina Bay. Divi Carina @ St-Croix….too early yet?
If all that you are looking for is a beach and a bed, then this is the place for you. If you are looking for the resort life where you get pampered for a week, please pass. This hotel was severely damaged by a hurricane a while back, but rooms were completely restored. The common areas and amenities will be fabulous once fully operational, but that’s not for a while. They expect a full re-opening in Feb 2022 which in my opinion is very wishful thinking. Throughout our stay, staff was so helpful and kind. Here are a few things that happened for you to consider: (1) our room was new, but the bed was crawling with ants. We asked for a new room. After a 1h wait and several phone calls, we were moved to another room. Problem fixed. (2) The room was not cleaned everyday. So, we ended up having to call for this service daily. (3) We were informed before arrival that there were 2 restaurants open…in reality, one is a coffee counter with ready made food that is heated up in the microwave, the other is a snack bar offering fried food at the casino across the street. Nothing else. (4) The beach is not very nice, plus they don’t clean the seaweed daily like they tell you they will do, so you’ll want to rent a car and drive to other beaches. Here are some other thoughts that are more positive: (1) they serve rum punch daily, and it’s pretty good. (2) the pool is great. (3) the occupancy is at most 20% so there are no crowds and (4) as mentioned earlier, the staff is so sweet. If all that you are looking for is a beach and a bed, then this is the place for you.
