Great Experience
The resort is beautiful. You can spot wildlife at any given time of day. The mountains surround the resort and makes for great up close viewing. The resort is also located near stores, restaurants, etc. The resort amenities were not all open, which was the only disappointment of the trip. The staff was nice, check-in and check-out process was easy. The rooms are remodeled and very cozy. I enjoyed my trip and will return. The resort is beautiful. Comedy of issues or just plain terrible?
Just got home from a long weekend at Massanutten Resort in VA. The location is nice, near Shenandoah, Charlottesville, and Harrisonburg. The main building looks nice from the outside which gave me a good first impression. Went to check in and this lady gave me a few paperwork and show me a map of Eagle Trace which is where my townhome unit is. She highlighted unit 348 on the map and told me to key in Lopez Dr on the GPS and it will get me there. I asked if I could have a late check out because I have a 10:30 conference that morning. She gave me a standard speech about check out instead making a small accommodation. Standard check out time is 10am. Fine I asked if there's coffee shop or business area that I could go instead. again she didn't give me a straight forward answer. Fine, I will find one myself. So I keyed in Lopez Dr on my Map. It got me there and I was looking for unit 348 and couldn't find it. I parked and looked at the map and her highlighted unit and looked at the key fob pocket. the key fob pocket is labeled 358B which is different than the 348 she highlighted. I found 348 and tried the key. Didn't work so I drove to 358 and it worked. It would be so easy to key in 358 Crenshaw Cir and the GPS took me directly there. Fine at least I got there and the key works. Walked in the room, looks dated. Put down my stuff. An alarm started to chirp. Had to figure which one, one above the TV and one near it on the other wall. Thought it was the one above the TV. Call Maintenance and they say they will send someone over. About 20 mins later, maintenance showed up with a ladder and ONE battery. I told him it's the one above the TV and why not replace both batteries. He looked at both and said he saw red flashing on the other one. He replaced the battery on that one. The chirping stopped so I guess that's it. Went out with my friend who stays at a different location in the resort, Woodstone I believe. Came back in the evening and was tired after driving 6+ hrs to get there. Felt asleep. The bed is pretty comfortable even though it's old. TV on the other hand is a joke. It's about 22". YES ~22" My computer monitor at home is bigger than it! TV is cheap. Why they don't have at least a 40" TV is beyond me. The one in the living room is about 32". Doesn't matter since I was tire. Then about 1:40am, an alarm went off. Imagine how angry I was being tired and asked them to replace the battery in the afternoon. Of course maintenance stops working at 9pm. So after dialing different places finally got ahold of the front desk and they sent security. Since it was the carbon monoxide alarm was the one went off, I opened the door to the deck even though it was freezing temp. Security came after about 10 mins with a new battery. didn't bring a ladder so he had to go get one back in the office. came back another 10 mins later. he replaced the battery and the alarm stopped chirping. Finally, now it's 2:30am when it's all done. I was so cold that I could fall back to sleep until about 4am. Got up before 8am because there's a skylight in the bedroom with jacuzzi. went to get a shower and realized there's no shampoo. Fine just use the soap. Call house keeping and she told me they don't provide shampoo and I have to ask the front desk at check in to get it. WHAT? Later that night I went to the front desk and they said it should be in the room. I told them it wasn't any. I don't think they believe me but gave me one anyway. I asked about express check out and the lady was going to read the check out paper to me. I told her I have that and read through it. I also ask about stripping the bed sheet, putting the towels and putting trash in outside trash container. YES you read that correctly, I had to stripped the bed sheets; put used towels in a trash bag when I check out and put there by the front door. I have to collect the trash and take it out to the trash container outside. There was NO house keeping, i.e. clean the room, give fresh towels, toiletry etc. I was there for two nights so no big deal to me. Strange though. Never experience that until now. Some hotel may offer the option if you DON'T want them to clean your room but it's their standard here. By the way, it shows that they don't do much cleaning. Mold in the toilet, shower knob. bathroom sink seemed to be dirty. it's a beige color so it hides it well. shower curtain is old. Worse lodging experience ever. My friend stays at their Woodstone location. His room looks fairly new. I think the rate may even be a few $ cheaper. My advice is if you are going to stay at the Resort, stay away from Eagle Trace. Our initial accommodations were horrible
We booked what we thought were 4 Gold Crown units, only to be handed keys to units that had not been updated since Christopher Columbus. They were also dirty and should have been condemned. When we complained, we were provided units that were recently updated, very clean, and accommodating. Unfortunately, we had to complain to be treated better. They had updated rooms available when we checked in, but didn't offer them to us. Hmmm, I wonder why not! I have a good guess, though. Can’t beat the view!
Eagle Trace was comfortable but should be updated. The views from this part of the resort are breathtaking. Unit was fine for our family but would be even better if upgrades are done. Kitchen was well stocked & in working order. Eagle Trace was comfortable but should be updated. The views from this part of the resort are breathtaking. Old, ugly, and small
The Eagle Trace section is ancient, beds torn down and rebuild as the wiring and HVAC systems are inefficient and ineffective. The units are small, furniture and finishes are 30 years old. Inside and out are dirty and not well maintained with poor internet signal.
