Awful
We booked this place through RCI. We should have read the Trip Advisor reviews, because they were spot on. This place is awful. The people at check in were very rude and made no attempt to speak English. Apparently they really don’t want Americans in their property. When I asked for the resort information in English, the women held up her phone and said “translate”. So I ended up spending 2 hours trying to translate their ridiculous recycling rules. During the time of Covid, you would think they would take extra time cleaning the units, but it was filthy. The unit was old and run down. Even the landscaping was scruffy and overgrown. We even saw a wet roll of toilet paper thrown in the lawn and it was there during our entire visit. We were given sheets and had to make the bed. The mattress was dirty and covered with hair We booked this place through RCI. We should have read the Trip Advisor reviews, because they were spot on. This place is awful. How is this location in RCI ?
The accomodations are Spartan. They are the worst I have ever been to using RCI. A serious upgrade is needed in all phases , bedrooms, kitchen, and especially the bathroom. The electricity was off when we arrived, and we had to hunt down the panel. There is also no air conditioning and no screens for the windows. The accomodations are Spartan. Beautiful but sadly insufficient.
This is a beautiful location with an excellent restaurant and pool with views to die for but if you are not in good health or cannot climb stairs or walk up or down hills, DO NOT GO. Also, if you are expecting luxury you will be sadly disappointed in the room. Be prepared to be greeted by a mattress and a bag of linen to make your own bed. Additionally, download a google translation app as the very friendly staff struggles with any language but their own. English is minimal at the check in and in the restaurant (although the waiters did the best) and in the store on site. Relaxing resort in lovely location with great pool - but faded units and some maintenance problems
Relaxing resort in lovely location with great pool - but faded units and some maintenance problems The scenic location overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea above Maratea is delightful but you will need a car to visit the local area and restaurants, the best of which are at Porto do Maratea. The resort is 220 km south of Naples and can also be reached by train and taxi. Reception, minimarket and maintenance staff are excellent: welcoming, friendly, and responsive. The resort has a large, well maintained pool with plenty of space for sun lounging in the numerous deck chairs on artificial turf. There is also a bar and restaurant that offers various meal packages, neither of which we tried; and a large, fairly well stocked, minimarket, including deli, near reception, which takes credit cards. While the size and condition of our unit was OK, and the pool, reception and dining areas are well maintained, we experienced some maintenance problems: the electricity was off when we entered the unit and without any apparent reason went off again a couple of times. While our unit was clean no attention had been given to the patio, which was tatty and had not been cleaned. Indeed, apart from the pool, reception, and restaurant areas, the other public areas are not well maintained, and the outside of the units desperately needed a lick of paint. The resort is past its best, maintenance-wide. The lock on the outer door stuck on several occasions preventing us from entering; fortunately for us not at too inconvenient times e.g. returning late evening in the dark but the problem could have been more serious. Even a few drops of UB40 oil might have done the trick. The rose of the shower had become blocked so water only came out of the middle part plus it was 7 ft above the bath. We asked for it to be replaced and a helpful maintenance guy came soon came and did the job. But, didn't someone notice the problem previously? The wooden window frame in the bathroom was actually rotten (see photo)! Surprisingly for a timeshare unit, maid service is non-existent: guests find a large polythene package of sheets, (thin/worn) towels, tea towels, etc. dumped in the room for them to sort out themselves. While there were enough sheets and towels to change during the week, the resort management is making a pretty loud statement to guests that they are not really bothered. Inside the pack, there were also only 2 toilet rolls for 2 people for a week, and at first met some resistance at reception when we asked for more. I have no idea whether owners are treated in this way but in those resorts where we own, management make no such distinctions. The galley kitchen (with a large fridge and a 4-ring gas hob) was too small to cook a meal. The large polythene package also did not include either washing up liquid or sponge/brush. Crockery and saucepan cupboards assumed guests were 7ft tall. While the electric boiler above the front of the bath provided plenty of hot water at all times, without a bathmat or handles, getting in and out of the bath/shower was a hazardous exercise. As is often the case in Italy, the double bed was actually two single beds put together. While far from being luxuriously comfortable, it was adequate. However, when the temperature dropped to the 50sF, the 2 single woollen blankets provided were inadequate for autumn weather. There was no duvet. While it was possible to connect to wifi in the unit, the signal was weak and unreliable, especially with several devices. Taking all these problem together, clearly the owners and management need to invest more in their resort. Nonetheless, we had a relaxing time, especially visiting the excellent seafood restaurants in Porto di Maratea and sitting in the deck chairs by the pool round the pool. We also made an overnight trip to the fascinating city of Matera on the Puglia border, this year's European city of culture, and the villages of Rivello and Lagonegro, all of which were worth the effort notwithstanding the absence of consistent road signs and poor GPS signals across the region. Very outdated property in scenic location
Very dated unit that put a damper on our vacation to otherwise beautiful destination. Rotting wood window frame in bathroom. Double bed is two twin mattresses put together. Beds not made upon arrival, sheets provided, no blankets. International travelers need to plan for purchasing bathroom amenities and kitchen cleaning supplies in advance or otherwise have limited options in onsite (including toilet paper) market. Units do not have w/d, must coordinate use of facility w/d with administration. Very complicated trash/recycling program with potential fees for non-compliance that was only provided in Italian.
