Love the pool snack bar
Our room was awesome. We had a 1 bedroom, ocean view. It had everything we needed. The waiters at the pool bar / snack bar, Victor & Pedro were awesome. So funny and accommodating. The cook there at the snack bar Philippe was wonderful. His French fries & Hamburgers are well worth trying. We went to the Japanese restaurant on our last night there, and the food was amazing. Our waiter (I can't remember his name) had only been there for 3 days, but he was wonderful. Bathrooms were constantly being cleaned, and masks were enforced anywhere in the lobby. So they tried very hard to maintain Covid-19 protocols. Our room was awesome. We had a 1 bedroom, ocean view. It had everything we needed. Mislead when it came to covid pcr test
Let me start with the pros, most of the staff was friendly and attentive. The buffet was decent and the pizza and snacks were pretty good. The cafe had great Frappuccinos and decent pastries. The chill out lounge was a pretty good place to get drinks and access wifi if you needed it. Cons, there was quite a foul odour just outside of the resort entrance and in some areas on the property. Our air conditioning in the room did not work, and after several requests to have it fixed it was never fixed properly. There were no fridges in the rooms and no fridge could be requested. There were no ice machines on the property. My biggest complaint would be with Alexandra one of the event planning ladies. We met with her after checking in to make an appointment to get our PCR test. I made it very clear to her that we were from Canada and needed to book a PCR test. We were told the test should be booked for Thursday since we we’re leaving on Saturday. I asked Alexandra how much the test would be because I had been told it would be over $100.00 USD each from one of the other staff members when we were checking in. Alexandra said she would make a phone call and get back to us and let us know the cost of the test. We wanted to go to our room and change since we had just checked in. When we returned back to the check in area Alexandra stopped me and said she called and confirmed that they could do the test for $45.00 USD each person. I made sure I understood her instructions by saying “ just so I understand, we come here with our passports Thursday morning at 11:00. We give our passports to the front desk to make copies and they will take us over to the doctors at the resort across the street and we pay $45.00 usd each for the PCR test?” I was told a very confident yes by Alexandra. Thursday morning came, we went to the doctor cash in hand he performed the test and all was good, until he asked us for $520.00 usd for the test. I told him we were told 45.00 usd each and that all we brought was $200.00 usd. To make a long story short, we ended up paying the $520.00 usd because at this point we didn’t have time to source out or look into another option. Alexandra told us we should have listened to what the first staff member had told us about the price and took NO ownership for her mistake. No apology, no sorry I misunderstood the type of test you needed. Instead she put the blame on us, to make matters worse the manager said Alexandra misunderstood us but still said we should have known because he had told us the cost at check in. If you know Mexico you know that prices vary depending on who you talk to and Alexandra was the last person we discussed the price of the test with. I work in customer service and no the the customer may not always be right but if I make a mistake or misunderstood a person’s request I would atleast offer an apology and own it, not put the blame on someone else. Lovely Boutique-Style FAMILY Resort
The Plaza Pelicanos GRAND Beach Resort is GREAT if you are a quiet couple who don’t mind kids, OR you bring your family with you. It is NOT great if you want an adults-only hotel to party hard. This is a small boutique-style hotel with no partying. We LOVED that it’s authentic, cozy, quiet and clean! Highly Recommended! This is a beachfront hotel with one pool, one buffet, one nightly-themed restaurant, one swim-up/walk-in pool bar, one pool-side snack stand. There is No lobby bar, no coffee shop, no gift shop, no big-name night shows (mostly karaoke). It’s in a central location to walk for liquor, massage, pharmacy stores and food shops. And only $80-100 pesos taxi to the Malecon, the Marina, or anywhere else you want to visit. I recommend you choose a 1-bedroom suite (ask for Suite #1300) with cathedral beams & terracotta ceilings, large living/dining space, separate King Bedroom, huge balcony overlooking pool and ocean, and very quiet top 3rd floor room in older section of building. Totally clean and functional with two wide screen TV’s, new fridge and coffee maker, plenty of hot water, two quick elevators, and a laundromat. There's also a 9th floor rooftop patio and bar available nightly for adults-only. COVID TEST UPDATE: Ask the front desk for the Resident Manager, Mr. Jaime Falcon, a wonderful man who’ll arrange your US or CDN test in the hotel. Cost for US required Antigen test is about $35US, and a Canadian PCR test is $140US, which you will pay the Doctor directly. Front Desk will exchange CDN$ to MXN Pesos at 1-13 rate, and US$ at 1-18 rate. Many people make your vacation special, as does your own personal attitude during your vacation. Be open, be friendly, be kind. The Mexican people are strong and proud, and love talking about any subject…engage them! Also please tip often and as much as possible; they don’t get paid our CDN or US wages! The following ‘shout-outs’ are just some of the folks who made us feel welcome at the Pelicanos Grand…Eduardo the Bell Boy, Manuel the Bartender, Pool Bar Waiters Pedro & Salvador, Buffet Waiters Sergio & Martin, Specialty restaurant Waiters Victor, Franklyn & Marcelino, and most important was Judith, our daily Housekeeper…GRACIAS! Excellent hotel and resort
Loved this place. The room and ocean beach view was spectacular. All resort staff we came in contact with were polite, friendly, helpful and professional at all times. The resort and room were clean and well kept up. Our only complaint was a very loud party below us that went on all night until 6 AM. Other than that, our stay was exceptional and we loved every minute of it. Highly recommended. Loved this place. The room and ocean beach view was spectacular. All resort staff we came in contact with were polite, friendly, helpful and professional at all times. The resort and room were clean and well kept up. Our only complaint was a very loud party below us that went on all night until 6 AM. Other than that, our stay was exceptional and we loved every minute of it. Highly recommended.

Very bad
Tried to have supper in the buffet restaurant. Had to share it with a cat the table behind us was feeding. Disgusting in this time with covid and paying for the all inclusive.
