What a location and holiday by the sea!!!

This review is about a timeshare stay for one week at the resort. The resort consists of 63 units that are almost identical. The units are ideally designed for family holidays at the coast. The units have large covered balconies that allow you to have a holiday that is almost independant of the weather which is important at the KZN coast as the weather changes quickly and it rains for a short time almost every day. The balcony is so big that is is equal in size to the main bedroom and lounge combined. The view from each balcony is stunning as the resort is across the road from the beach and sea at the main access point to the Margate beach. There is also a large private enetertainment area in front of the resort which has a large swimming pool, braai and lounging areas and even outdoor gym facilities, so you can stay off the beach if that is your thing. The units themselves are first class with three bedrooms, one bathroom ensuite and another with full size shower for the other bedrooms. There is a full kitchen even with dishwasher and clothes washer, a seperate bar and bar fridge - and lots of crockery and cutlery to cater for up to eight visitors. There is a lot of space in the units. The resort is walled away from the passing public and has security to keep residents safe. Ample parking is available in a covered garage that is part of the resort. The staff are very friendly and helpful and many have been associated with the resort for many years, welcoming one back when one returns for a followup visit. One unique feature of the setting is that there are palm trees in front of the resort adjacent to the public beach, and late in the afternoon at certain times of year, hundreds of birds fly into these specific trees to nest at night. Amazing to see swarms of birds arrive and dissappear into the palm trees as the sun is setting. The resort has a very responsive reception staff and a simple internal call gets any problem solved almost immediately. One new feature of Margate as a holiday destination for self catering timeshare holiday tourists is that your online ordering apps for grocery deliveries and food deliveries that you use in Johannesburg now also work in Margate and everything can be delivered to your door. Disgusted stay

What an unpleasant holiday INDEED! Upon arrival our key did not have a tag, we did not have any towels (which we only realized once I was already in the bath) and no dstv remote to operate the TV. You can see the reception lady does not take any pride in her job, and it is very obvious that this job is only a job for her to have an income and nothing more. The cleaning staff however were all very friendly. AND MOST IMPORTANT, NO Covid regulations were followed.... to my shock 8 guests wanted to squash into the lift with me, none wearing any masks, and upon asking where their masks were they were very disgusted with me, and I felt forced to leave the lift, even though I was in the lift first. And this despite signs everywhere stating that it is a criminal offense not wearing a mask on the premises of Margate Sands. Nowhere where most guests moved through the resort, have anyone complied with sanitizing their hands upon entering the building or wearing masks.... This comes to an utter shock to me. Disappointing

Infested with cockroaches. The staff looked at me like I am the crazy one when I raised this complaint. Joy- the deputy manager- should be let go of. She clearly has not taken any course on how to deal with customers. No interest by staff to enforce their rules- particularly noise. We were told that some guests consume alcohol and they would speak loudly. I was told that most of them would check out on Sunday and that it would be quiet thereafter. So if you are looking for a quiet time where you won't be sighting cockroaches, do not consider Margate Sands. #FirstGroup Infested with cockroaches. Excellent Place for Family Holiday

On arrival we received a warm welcome from the security personnel and the receptionist. They gave us a an upper room with nice sea view. Leonard the manager was extremely wonderful to us, on the following day he personally met us and gave us one of the newly renovated rooms on the ground floor.He was lovely and very kind, understanding customer needs, he offered us excellent service.He made our stay enjoyable and memorable. We give him thumbs up!! If you would like to have an excellent and lovely holiday in the South Coast, we recommend Margate Sands, it is a best place for family holiday. Breeding ground for Covid!

We checked in on Friday the 30th of April 2021 at 5:00pm and we made a decision to check out on the same day by 5:30pm! Guests were not adhering to Covid protocols - not wearing masks, some were also consuming alcohol in the corridors. There was no enforcement by accommodation management, we laid a complaint and nothing was done. We found that the interior of the unit was also dated and we could not compare this experience with our previous holidays there (about 2 years back...very disappointed this time around). My father had chemotherapy and we had an infant with us, it was simply to risky to stay, NOT with Covid on our doorsteps, and it is no longer a vacation spot IF you are seeking a relaxing, peaceful staycation. I would NOT be visiting Margate Sands again, and I am contacting FUN HOLIDAYS for a full refund. The check in alone made me feel unsafe.
