A long weekend to relax and unwind
Four of us stayed in a 6-sleeper cabin, Unit 10. The cabin has a king-size bed in a downstairs bedroom with a walk-in cupboard and a large heated bathroom with a bath, huge shower, toilet and bidet. There is a fireplace in the bedroom which adds a very romantic atmosphere. Also downstairs is an open plan room with a lounge and a kitchen. The kitchen was VERY well equipped with more than enough crockery, cutlery and other items needed to cook. The lounge has a large fireplace with daily refreshing of wood and charcoal to keep you warm. Upstairs were six single beds. I stayed with my elderly parents and the stair climb to the upstairs bedroom could be difficult for mobility-impaired people. Hot water bottles were supplied for all the beds and the upstairs bedroom has a small heater. The resort is lovely, well looked after and has friendly staff all around. The shop is very small, so make sure to pack all your food and additions as the supply is limited and the drive to the nearest store is a challenge. Our only unhappy issue was the pricing of the dinner at the restaurant. R240 per person for a fixed, three-course dinner, and when we asked what it was, the staff were unable to tell us until later. There was an option for just the main course at R180, which is also epensive. Four of us stayed in a 6-sleeper cabin, Unit 10. Beautiful Mount Sheba 2nd Time Around
We received this as a gift through timeshare for 4 nights and 5 days. The 10KM drive is scenic however be warned – an off road vehicle is definitely a better option for this trip or you will feel panicked about your trips in and out of the resort every time. You do want to go out a few times to see the beauty that Mpumalanga has to offer – from Gods window to the caves which is definitely a great family experience. Having said this, we did use our sedan car which was rather kind to us and did not deter us from going out for 2 days The last 3KM is tarred to the resort. Brace yourself it is going to be a bumpy road! The hikes look really good and they do offer an accompanied service should you be afraid to venture into the forest alone the though of monkeys and other animals does scare one. We stayed in the self-catering option and would definitely recommend the value for money breakfast available at the pool bar should you want to sleep in and catch a late breakfast without the burden of cooking. Our Chalet was clean and well kept – here I have to mention the excellent service we received from Liza and her accommodating ways and great customer service. This is what makes a stay at any resort an experience to remember. She was fabulous – Thank you Liza. The bathrooms of the Chalet definitely requires a revamp – they are clean but a remodelling can be done the eastern option does not work if it is cramped in right next to the shower. The dishes and facilities of the kitchen can be cleaner despite the cleaning service a Deep Clean of every Chalet is definitely required. We had enough supply of firewood should you require more you can purchase from reception. Beautiful place and chalet I would definitely recommend the hotel option if a shorter stay – having stayed here more than 18 years ago. 3 star quality We received this as a gift through timeshare for 4 nights and 5 days. Heaven on earth
One of the most exotic places I have ever visited. The staff is professional and friendly; the food is excellent. I loved the walking trails to the waterfalls, and I was lucky to see the Samango monkeys which are only found in rainforests. I can recommend this lovely environment where time stands still and quiet rules. One of the most exotic places I have ever visited. The staff is professional and friendly; the food is excellent. Gem of Mpumalanga
What a beautiful place with the most amazing scenery! The food was great! The staff is so friendly. The walking trail to the 2 waterfalls is a must. Went on a Panorama Day Tour with a qualified guide, it was definitely worth it. I loved visiting the historic Pelgrims Rest. I am already planning my next visit. Beautiful scenery but that's where it ends
I booked a chalet through my timeshare for the weekend. The drive on the dirt road up to the lodge was scenic and beautiful. The hikes on the property are breathtaking but that's where the good news ends. The food at the Chandelier Restaurant was horrendous. We paid R600 for dinner for 2 that wasn't even worth R100. My partner had the oxtail which was burnt and full of bones and 1 piece of meat. I had the chicken which was covered in a congealed mess of I don't even know what.....All of our courses were sent back half eaten and we weren't even questioned why. Wouldn't you ask if it wasn't good or if the customer was maybe not that hungry??? The pan in the chalet was filthy, full of grease and we had to clean it before using it. The bath had not been cleaned after we used it the first night - you could feel the scum at the bottom of the bath when you sat down. We had to ask for toilet paper. They are so stingy with their wood for the fireplace. You can maybe have a fire going for an hour or 2 and then the wood runs out and you have to purchase additional bundles for R25 and they will only supply wood for 1 fireplace, not both. It really is a beautiful place but I was bitterly disappointed and I doubt that I will be back which is a real shame. I booked a chalet through my timeshare for the weekend.
