Great for children, subpar for everything else.
We visited here in November with my grandkids. Overall, the lodge had some great positive things going for it and some really negative stuff too. I will , thus, break down the review into two parts. The pros of Great Wolf Lodge: Without question, it is very good for kids with one of the best indoor water parks around. They give everyone nice wolf ears to wear, they had an interesting cast of characters, similar to that if Disney too. They also had other great events such as a scavenger hunt, story telling etc. So why did I give it only three stars? Here are the cons: While it is great for kids, it is not designed for adults. First, there is no in room service . They are blaming covid for this, but I have seen hotels provide service if you wanted it. Also, we had service problems in our rooms that the hotel never addressed. For example, our telephone never worked, nor did an external outlet extender. While the hotel promised to fix these things the next day, no one came to fix it in the three days that we were there. Yes, we did complain each day too. Secondly, Mask wearing was optional. They relied on the honor system for unvaccinated people to wear masks. I did NOT feel safe here. Third: The food was VERY subpar. They offer two buffet meals: breakfast and dinner. They always serve the same stuff at each meal, which does get old. Also, the food items were prepared very sub par with little consideration to health. For example, breakfast had a number of fried items, none of which used healthy oils such as extra virgin olive oil or avocado oil. Their fruit consisted of cantaloupe, honeydew and watermelon- all of which were tasteless. I did somewhat like their yogurt parfait, but even that was mediocre and served in very small containers. I guess if you got 4-5 of these, it might equal what you would expect from a restaurant. They had some cinnamon "Monkey bread" that was not fresh. In fact, it tasted thawed out after being frozen. Even the frittata was dry. Dinner was better, but not much better. They had a number of fried things but again didn't use healthy oils. They did have a salad with some toppings, but nothing special. Sadly, the only sugar-free desserts were jello, which was served in the small little shot glass containers. They did have some decent terryaki salmon and some baked , breaded chicken that wasn't bad, although my kids thought both were too dry, which is probably the case. Finally, the hotel has some sort of heat limiter built into their heating. Each night, I would wake up freezing since the head would completely shut off. we would set it for 75 and wake up when the temperature was 65 or less!! Bottom line:great for kids, lousy for adults. I personally wouldn't want to come back We visited here in November with my grandkids. Overall, the lodge had some great positive things going for it and some really negative stuff too. Staycation
Great waterpark for kids of all ages. The bunk bed arrangement for the kids were great but the Queen size bed for my wife and I were less than comfortable. A King size bed would have made a significant improvement for our sleep quality. Overall, the stay was a blast. Great waterpark for kids of all ages. From my 8 yo:
I liked the wand quest. I liked the water park. I liked everything there. It came with free wolf ears. I liked the food there. I liked the room we were in. I liked the arcade games. Clearly, she was a fan! I liked the wand quest. I liked the water park. I liked everything there. It came with free wolf ears. I liked the food there. I liked the room we were in. disappointing
We've stayed at this Great Wolf, and others before but this time it was not a pleasant visit. We had a kids cabin suite so the size was nice, it was clean. The kids running overhead from 5 am on sounded like elephants- I assume they were kids. The only way to communicate or get information was through a fairly outdated app. The AC wasn't working properly- set at 75, it felt 65. When we entered the room, it was so cold that I had concerns about the ac unit at that point. The only food options were the restaurant buffet or pizza/salads- we were given open-access cups for sodas without lids- kind of challenging to get drinks and a large pizza back to one's room. One of us uses a wheelchair- the side wings of the resort have one elevator so getting anywhere is very difficult considering the number of people trying to use the elevators. Many families prefered to be on the elevator alone but that left my child and myself stranded for 20 minutes at one point. The water park had several attractions closed, like some slides and the lazy river :( I had looked forward to staying there again but it was a mistake for us. On our wing of the hotel, for the entire wing, there was one operating washer and dryer so if you needed to utilize it, you had to hope to get lucky that it wasn't being used. The check in people were very efficient and I appreciated that. It's a great location for local attractions like Busch Gardens, there are stores and restaurants nearby but again, that was our last stay there. We noticed overflowing trash bins on property but that was true just about everywhere we went on our trip in five states. We ended up leaving for another hotel and cancelling the rest of our stay there, mostly due to the hours of children running and jumping overhead.
