Jewel in Guidecca.
From outside this hotel is entirely deceptive, don't let looks fool you. Inside it's absolutely stunning. Immaculately clean and tidy, decent sized room which looked across the canal. The staff are an absolute delight and so helpful, nothing is too much for them they're so friendly and welcoming, quick to offer help and assistance in getting around or suggesting places to visit. Particularly the two young women on reception Martina and the other lady, were so nice and made our stay. The breakfast is incredible and full every morning and the breakfast lady is truly amazing. Would definitely return and recommend. 5 stars. Grazie guys. From outside this hotel is entirely deceptive, don't let looks fool you. Inside it's absolutely stunning. Little gem
My partner and I spent three days here the hotel is very deceptive from the outside it looks ordinary, the inside is lovely. The island location is away from the hustle and bustle of the main island but only a short ride away. Staff on reception are friendly and helpful without it looking like it’s a chore. The hotel was immaculate throughout and breakfast was plentiful. All in all a very pleasant and relaxing experience. Thanks to all the staff, would definitely return. Wonderful stay
My Boyfriend and I booked a week in Venice, at the end of July. We were a little apprehensive about choosing a hotel on the island of Guidecca ( and not Venice itself) however this turned out to be the best decision we could've made! Please don't worry about booking a hotel on Guidecca, it is so easy to get to and from Venice and I would recommend it to any one! I have stayed in central Venice before and I much much preferred Guidecca. The island is peaceful and quiet, it's easy to get to and from Venice and is a lovely escape after a busy day of sight-seeing. Upon arriving at the airport, we purchased a return ticket on the Allilaguna water bus ( 27 euro) - there is a stall in the arrivals hall - to 'Guidecca Stucky' ( Stucky is another word for the Hilton hotel at the end of Guidecca island) - This is the red or blue line. You buy your ticket and head downstairs to the boat platforms and board the correct red or blue boat! The journey was long ( a few hours!) but you get to see a lot of Venice and there were plenty of seats. Guidecca Stucky was the last stop - we got off and you have to walk for about 10 minutes, cross a few bridges until you pass the local Vaporetto stop ( named Palanca ). You have to turn right down a small alley just after a bridge - close to the La Foca pizza place. ( I remembered the alley because it has graffiti letters sprayed on the top of the wall!) Follow the alley to a courtyard and the hotel is a signposted red building on the right before a bridge. Its extremely safe, don't be put off by the words alley or graffiti, the island was lovely. First impressions we were a little concerned, however ignore the tired 'outer' appearance of the hotel. As soon as you get inside the interior is beautiful, clean and air conditioned. Staff are very friendly and all speak perfect English ( which helps!). We were in room 11 on the ground floor, which was a stunning room with exposed beams in the ceiling and a pillar. The rooms were cleaned every day, beds very comfortable. We had lots of space, a nice bathroom and shower, and a mini fridge to keep water and snacks cool. A safe in the room was also very helpful. Breakfast was nice. However as English we did miss a cooked breakfast, and a toaster would have been perfect - but yogurts and croissants were fine. When we wanted to visit Venice, we walked to the 'Palanca' Vaporetto stop along the front, purchased a weekly ticket on the machine ( all in English so very easy) and paid by credit card ( it was 60 euro for unlimited travel which was perfect for us and meant we could really explore). Boats were frequent and easy to use - we often caught the number 2 straight over the water, which was only one stop. Just remember to validate your ticket by holding it up to the machine as you board, check the screens above the platforms which explain how to get where - just like a London underground map. There is a co-op about 5 minutes away from the hotel. Just type it into google maps with the hotels wifi and its easy to find. This is where we bought crisps and snacks ( try chocolate plum cakes - so yummy!) a tub of olives and a bottle of wine chilled in the fridge is really nice to come home too after a busy day of sight seeing. The staff in this shop are friendly and speak English. ( Avoid the shop on the sea front - discount world or something like that - staff in there were rude and abrupt and definitely did NOT like tourists!) The hotel bar is also very nice for an evening coffee or drink. As for meals, we tried a few restaurants along the water front and had lovely meals with beautiful views. Our favourite had to be ' La Foca' Pizza place. Its very close to the hotel, has a glowing pizza take away sign in the window and a logo of a seal. Pizzas were delicious, cheap and we ate them outside watching the water. Our favourite was 'Stoche' or something like that.. brie, sausage and olives ( 9 euro for a huge pizza). Trattoria Pizzería Do Mori was a nice place to eat too, I highly recommend the shrimp and zucchini spaghetti. Also don't forget you can drink tap water in Venice! This is completely safe and saves loads of money. There is a fountain outside of the hotel to fill your water bottles, or just drink straight from the tap. When it's time to go home you simply walk up the island to the huge Hilton hotel and wait for your airport transfer there with your return ticket. Water buses are very frequent. We LOVED our stay at this hotel and had a beautiful week exploring Venice from Guidecca. I am a nervous traveller and I found it so easy to get around, I would stay on this island again as it is the perfect base for exploring Venice. Amazing hotel in a quiet location!
My partner and I stayed at Hotel Guidecca for 4 nights at the end of July and had a fantastic stay. The hotel (as you may guess by it’s name) is located on Guidecca Island, the opposite side of the canal from St Marc’s Square. The location was fantastic for us, as not only was it easy to get to Venice mainland via the water bus (Vaporetto Sevice) as there is a stop located just around the corner with boats every 7/10 mins, Guidecca is a slightly quieter location meaning that bars and restaurants were a little less busy and a little cheaper too! The hotel itself is very clean and tidy, with spacious rooms and excellent air conditioning (which was essential after exploring Venice in 35 degree heat!) The breakfast is a continental breakfast consisting mainly of bread, cold cuts, pastries, cereals and fruit which acted as a good start to a day exploring the city. All members of staff we encountered were very pleasant, helpful and polite. The only tiny complaints we had - there aren’t many plug sockets in the room, so it may be worth bringing an adaptor with multiple outputs. And the shower often took a long time to warm up and is quite a squeeze. However neither of which were issues big enough to prevent a 5 star rating! A lovely stay in an even lovelier city - thank you! My partner and I stayed at Hotel Guidecca for 4 nights at the end of July and had a fantastic stay.
