Comfortable, private and secure
We stayed in the Old Smithy and the forge was in the living room! Well fitted out with comfortable bed and good quality furniture and accessories. There were chairs and a table for outside and we had a private road with bridge over a small stream Leisure facilities and pool were closed due to COVID and there were no staff on site at all which seemed bit odd. We didn’t see any other guests either. We were given a phone number to contact if needed but only used it to ask about WiFi - there isn’t any! We were advised to use the info centre in town or local cafe or pub. Bit difficult as it was Bank Holiday weekend and they were either full to bursting or closed. Lots of walks around and plenty of castles to visit. We stayed in the Old Smithy and the forge was in the living room! Well fitted out with comfortable bed and good quality furniture and accessories. Nice cottage, bathrooms a bit dated
We stayed in Timberwick Green cottage (3 bedrooms) for a week. The cottage was a lovely old stone cottage. There are some outdoor garden spaces with garden furniture but we weren't clear exactly which are for which cottage - there are 2 other cottages in a horse shoe arrangement. This didn't bother us. There was parking but sometimes we parked on the wide drive which ended at the cottages because the parking area was right next to one of the other cottages. This was no problem though. The kitchen was a good size with a 4 ring electric hob (metal plate kind) and oven, microwave, and good quality worktops. The kitchen table easily seated 6 people and there was a highchair (which we didn't need). The sitting room was not that big, but again could seat 6 with 2 small sofas and 2 arm chairs. The old fire/stove was ornamental (but would have been used originally). The TV had a DVD player and freeview. The 3 upstairs bedrooms were fine with a good size double bed, 2 singles and a bunk. People had complained about some beds (in some cottages) being squeaky but we didn't find the beds a problem. The main bathroom had a bath, not sure it had a shower attachment. The downstairs loo had a walk-in power shower. It didn't really work on normal setting, but on Eco setting the temperature was fine although the pressure was not high. Heating wise it was storage heaters throughout - not central heating. Problems: A bulb went in the hallway and a bathroom light and the microwave, and the hot tap in the downstairs loo did not work. On the day I called, the estate management sent someone round within an hour and fixed the tap and the bulbs that had gone. The cottages are literally on the end of a footpath that goes up into the cheviots so it is very suitable for walking. The views from local hills were great, and there were some local hill forts etc. The amenities in the estate were not open when we stayed (pool, games room, etc). We visited Wooler for shopping, Breamish valley was great for a day trip (the waterfall, art cafe, hill forts and river), we also visited Thrunton woods and Amble/Bamburgh. There was nowhere to really walk to for food/drink from the cottage (unless you want to walk along the road for a few km), but we knew that when we booked. We would stay again. Great for a peaceful break away.
A beautiful setting in a lovely part of Northumberland. We stayed in Rose Cottage for 2 weeks and thoroughly enjoyed it. Perfect size for 2 people with almost everything you need for a break away. Really peaceful large garden with table and chairs to enjoy the bird song. Cottage itself is lovely - just missed having a proper shower but the ones that go on taps is provided. Two arm chairs in the living room - would have been nice to have a foot rest for relaxing with a good book. A beautiful place and we would definitely come again. Beautiful Area and Resort Great
Resort was very nice and a wonderful spot for traveling around the Borders area and surrounds! Wish it had food and drink on premise but that just made us get out and explore the wonderful places nearby! I can't wait to go back! Traveled May 2019 not 2020 (but submitted review very late) Resort was very nice and a wonderful spot for traveling around the Borders area and surrounds! Great place to stay
The cottage was beautifully decorated and well appointed, lovely and warm during the autumnal chill. The swimming pool and gym were an added bonus. The only downside was the lack of WiFi, but it’s surprising how quickly you can manage without it! The cottage was beautifully decorated and well appointed, lovely and warm during the autumnal chill.
