Disappointing Vacation
I was going to give this three stars, but dropped it down to one.  Let me tell you why. My family travels, A LOT. And this is by far one of the biggest disappointment vacations we have ever had. The resort is nice, but the stress, hassle, and annoyance of all of the negatives about the place takes over way more than just a "nice place". First, when you arrive by your taxi or however you get here, you are taken to Central Lobby, a building where you drop your bags off and they are taken to be sanitized.  You then take a shuttle to a "transfer station", which is an area that people take another shuttle to get to your actual building (hopefully). Depending on what building you are in, you may have to walk a little bit to get to it. When my family and I arrived, it took over 2 hours for us to get to our room. We were told MULTIPLE TIMES prior to our stay that we were in The Grand Bliss. When we got here, we were sent to The Grand Bliss, only to find out we are at The Bliss, a completely different building/area. Part of our group had already checked in prior to our arrival. When you check in, you are given a bracelet that is your room key. They had to deactivate our other groups bracelets in order to activate ours and then do everyones at the same time again. The bracelet machine was not working and we spent a half hour trying to get them to work. We finally got to our room. We did not get our luggage until 4 hours after we checked in. They stated they "did not know what happened". We were traveling for hours and all we wanted was to get to the room to relax. The staff were friendly, but they bombard you with trying to sign up for all of these different things. All while trying to understand where to go for your room/building and how the whole facility works. It is too much at once. They need to let people check in, get their things, get to their room, and THEN allow people to settle in and see what they want to do. The rooms are nice with updated features, but there are the little details I look for when a resort calls themselves 5 star. There are no napkins, paper towels, or even salt and pepper shakers for your basic cooking needs. Our shower leaked and there were red stains on the bathroom floor. The beds were hard as a rock. Now there is an option for all inclusive, but there are still charges outside of all inclusive from that. Our room had these small flying ants/bugs throughout it. We said something about it and they were supposed to have someone come up and look. We are not sure if anyone did because we still had them throughout the trip. Maid service is "complimentary" twice a day, but we also had to pay a "resort fee" which explained was for wifi, maid service, and shuttle service. If we have to pay a resort fee then it is not "complimentary". My family loves to cook and while when we are on vacation, we still love to cook if possible. (Hence the not even salt/pepper available or paper towels or napkins). We have stayed at other resorts with kitchens and they provide the basic necessities. Even if it is an all inclusive resort, they should have these materials in the rooms available as not all guests are all inclusive. We were not all inclusive and planned on having breakfasts and lunches in the room. It was recommended to us to not buy groceries at the resort as the prices of items are way higher. There is an option to take a shuttle into Playa del Carmen (about 25 mins south) for $25 one way. We were told by staff that there is a $5 shuttle we could take. Then we were told by other staff there is a $7 shuttle to take. Then we were told the shuttle only runs every two hours certain times of the day. We ended up taking a taxi and spending the $50 round trip. I would recommend NOT taking a taxi to get groceries off the resort. The on-resort grocery store does have everything you would need and the prices are not much higher than the grocery store we went to in Playa del Carmen. Sure you may save $20 overall on your groceries, but you spend the extra $50 on a taxi and spend the time of going there and back. With the time it takes for a shuttle around the resort plus the taxi, you are looking at 3+ hours. Also, be sure to not bring any of your own drinks down to the pool. We brought some beer down in a couple of bags of ice from our room. The last day at the pool, we were told by a staff member that bringing your own drinks is not allowed and there are signs posted. We looked everywhere and did not see any signs posted. They said since they are a "full service" pool, they want people to buy from their bars and restaurants instead. We spent hundreds of dollars a day at the pool bars for their happy hour specials and food. On top of bringing out own drinks down. The shuttle service is hit or miss. Sometimes you wait 5 minutes, sometimes you wait over a half hour. You do get used to it after a few days, but depending on what building you are in, you have to take multiple shuttles. This place is HUGE. There are signs posted that do not allow walking. Some areas you can walk, but overall you need a shuttle to get you everywhere. My father is in a wheelchair and we had to rent one during our time. They do have handicap shuttles to accommodate you. We needed a Covid test to come back to our home country. The resort does it there. The process is so unorganized. You have to set up your time for your entire family. When you get to your appointment, they take you to one room for filling out paperwork. Then they take you to another room to confirm your identity. Then they take you to another room to do the actual test. It is A LOT of moving around and back and forth instead of just doing it all together at one time. There is a timeshare program that you have to go to that is highly aggressive. If you decide not to buy, they start being very rude to you. You are compensated for going to it, but it was a struggle to get the compensation applied. My mother had to speak to 6 different people in order to get things corrected from her bill. When we reviewed the bill, there is an automatic $300 pesos (about $15 US dollars) charge for their charity foundation they charge everyone. They can take it off if you ask them, but I wonder how many people do not even realize or know about it. Also, the "resort fee" we had to pay up front was charged the wrong amount. Depending on when you book your trip in the year, you are charged a certain price. We were charged the highest price, when we actually should have been charged the lowest price. Part of that "resort fee" does give you a credit to your room. That was part of the struggle trying to get that fixed as well. When you speak to one person, you have to basically talk to that person all the time because when you go back the next day, no one else knows what you are talking about. Like I said my mom had to talk to 6 different people to get things straightened out. There is the Vidanta app that shows events, dining, and special offers. I would highly recommend downloading that during your stay as it does help. You can order groceries and room service right to your room. The app did give some issues as our wifi kept disconnecting from our devices every 5 minutes. Some features of the app would not work right. Room service was not available to The Bliss on the app. On our last day, my husband and I had set up a family photo shoot as it is our anniversary and we just adopted a child. The weather was poor and rained so they had to postpone the shoot. They told us to come back at a certain time to have it done. When we came back and met them at the location, they started taking pictures with a wedding party instead of us and told us we had to wait for their photos to be done before we could do our session. We sat there for over a half hour and cancelled as it started to rain again and was getting dark.. We had wasted our entire last day getting ready for the shoot and waiting for our time, to keep getting postponed. They offered setting us up the next morning, but we were not about to do family photo session the morning of traveling internationally a few hours later. Needless to say we did not do the shoot as we were not waiting for another session to be done when we were supposed to have ours done right then. They lost a huge sale as you pay for the photo package after the shoot, not the shoot itself. This was the biggest disappointment as this was going to be our first family photo session together. Overall the place is very beautiful with the flowers and lush greenery. The beach is well groomed and the main pool is one of the biggest. Most of the food we had was delicious. However, the lack of organization, rudeness of some staff, and doing nothing about all of the inconveniences we had, made our decision of rating of this place and that we will never come back. I was going to give this three stars, but dropped it down to one.  Let me tell you why. My family travels, A LOT. And this is by far one of the biggest disappointment vacations we have ever had. Vidanta Grand Bliss is an Invonvinience
We landed on Sept 4th left the 11th. - CHECKIN - Upon checking in the gentlman who checked us in (check in is at 3, it was now nearly 5 pm due to flights) Would not give me the room number , I asked 3 times. He said the woman (whose name i can not recall) who he was passing me to , would give me the room number. -SALES She was there to set up a timeshare presentation, after giving us beers started with the pitch and I am like "what is my room number" she went to find out, comes back 1408- I asked if there were stairs and a true 4 stories because I have PTSD and elevators i do not take. It is rare when I do take them- I have had panic attacks. She signs us up, gives us a paper, a discount card and our room key. - WHY am i talking to a sales person before seeing my room?? WHY is that the person giving me my room number?? - WHY are 4 stories, really more like 7... yes 7, because they skip floors of presentation sales floors to finally start counting. - The next day I requested a room change, to which I was given one for the following day. I had to CHECK OUT at 10 and return at 3 (room not ready) came back at 4, got our new room on the 2nd floor. - TRANSPORTATION: WHY are there no instructions on when it is that the golf carts/trams come to the ONLY 2 places we could find- near the beach and where the concerts take place? WHY are none of them at the front of the resort, WHY must I walk about 1/2 mile to find one to not know if it is coming or just left and what time next? -TOO MUCH WALKING: I attend crossfit 4 times a week, and the other days i walk with friends or go to the gym. My husband walks a lot at work and is at the gym 5 nights a week. We are excellent shape. I WAS exhausted DAILY by the 4-6 miles of walking that I did to get anywhere on that resort. Because I do not come from a HUMID area and I DO NOT GO ON VACATION TO WALK ENDLESSLY- this was a huge inconvinience. So i traveled with backpacks at a resort because the thought of forgetting anything at all and having to walk back just bothered me. I came here to SIT and relax. WE ENCOUNTERED a number of people lost, unable to keep going, exhausted and pissed off at the same thing - STORES: To get to the PLAZA- walk...I mean you cant just put on something quick and go down to the market. NOPE, you must be dressed because there is a dress code- to go get like water or coffee or a snack at the plaza - MISSING ITEMS IN THE ROOM: There were NO Paper towels in our room. NO dishwashing soap, no sponges, no extra garbage bags, no extra toilet paper (Had to leave a note for housekeeping). - THE CANTINA- big pink sign outfront that says 18 plus, adults only. Only to go in 2 out of the 3 nights we went to be surrounded by little kids- i mean, little with no shoes, bouncing in and out of their seats, some screamed, others ran around their tables. What is the actual point of 18 plus if that is not the case!? Kids do what kids do, that is why they are not allowed in some adult spaces and yet here we were in the cantina, with kids. - MONEY: NO one would give us change for american money, we had some 20$. First ever resort where no one would give us change. So much so that i had to pay a taxi driver to the airport $20 because he conviniently didnt have change for a 20, when a cab ride was $8. At other resorts i have had to show my passport and tada.... change. - THE BUFFET. my god, what a waste of food, you could see plate after plate of people not eating the horrific premade eggs, horribly salty bacon and disgusting sausage. The only thing we ate there were the omletts made to order, french toast and tacos when they were being made to order. THE bakery area near the omlett station was filled with bees, bees all over the bread and the fruit. ALL OVER!! SERVE BETTER FOOD SO FOOD ISNT TRASHED!!!! - THE BEACH- Obviously no one can control the beach water itself, it is connected to the river and so it looks like chocolate milk. BUT you would think that these resorts would PAY staff to keep the actual beach clean. While walking on the shoreline, trash everywhere, bottle caps, plastic cups, hats, - CHECK OUT: WHY is there so little staff to help the existing staff particulary at the taxi pick up area. That poor young lady had 30 customers one after the other frustrated, looking for luggage and demanding a taxi. GIVE your staff help. THEY NEED HELP!!!! - INTERNET: because I own my own business I MUST work at times during vacation and couldnt seemlessly do so becuase the internet in the room was slow and inconsistent. The front desk only offered an extension number to call and told me I had to make reservations for the business center, I couldnt just go. - THE GYM- must make reservations although NO ONE is in it. We just went one day and 4 people by 9 pm had been in there. - The ROOM- man, that flooring on the balcony was, hard, dirty, pebbled- plants were dead. I can not remember the last time I was at a resort and couldnt walk out to a balcony barefoot. - THE Presentation, again, a waste- Sent us their "top guy" John. Who kept reminding us he only deals with members and he is at 400% of meeting his goal and that his office was upstairs. OK... Great. We werent going to buy here. Nice guy. I'd buy from him at CASA DORADA, the SANDS, The Marriot, Villa Estancia, The Grand Solmar, all places we have been. BUT NOT HERE. PLEASE stop telling people about Bill Gates and NFL players- we do not have their purchasing power so who cares. Really, who cares. - COVID testing, disorganized and hey- it is $30/per person, someone should have said something. Not that I do not have $30 but ... LOL, had to walk back to my room to get money or a card. SO disorganized. It says it nowhere on the paper they give you when you pick a slot. or call to make an a appointment. Really the most inconvinient vacation I have ever had - EVER. Family/Friend Vacation July/Aug 2021
We booked our stay through Vacation VIB and originally booked the Mayan Palace. Upon reviews, we were hesitant but went in with an open mind. The transportation pick up was easy to locate and we were on the bus within 20 minutes. Yes, the trolley/golf cart situation isn't ideal but honestly is not too bad. When we checked in we were told we were upgraded to the The Bliss hotel. The room was pleasant and they were able to book our 5 rooms in the same halls both on the 2nd and 3rd floor. The Bliss had their own concierge to assist with purchases, reservations, guidance and even check out so you don't have to go to main lobby. Very convenient. When checking in they request that you put a hold on your card for room charges, this is not mandatory but they do push hard for this. My friend was able to pay cash for her 'deposit' and I was able to put a small amount on my card for the room as well. They were labeled #1 and #2 so when charging items to our room we were able to separate charges and had no issues with this when checking out (just need to specify with servers and on receipts). The entertainment around the pool throughout the day was fun. The pool is salt water and definitely gets hot later in the day - almost like bath water which isn't so enjoyable. You can reserve cabanas by the towel station - $40/day but that amount goes toward your food and drink. Easy to hit $40 so essentially the cabana is free. If your order from the pool bar, it will be a separate bill than the one at the cabana. There is a small vendor section by one of the bathrooms where you can buy some trinkets and get your hair braided. No, the beach isn't perfect and cant really swim but it's still nice to lounge on. If you want a swimmable beach I recommend a day trip to Puerto Morelos or Isla Mujeres. Salum is an amazing ambiance but none of the food blew us away, almost seemed like it was all from the same kitchen no matter where you sat outside. Nevertheless, still worth experiencing. One restaurant that was delicious was the Blue Fin which I believe was at the Grand Mayan. Jungala was so much fun. If you go after 3pm the tickets are half price. The rides are a rush and their lazy river is the best I have ever experienced. Park closes at 5pm so you only have a couple hours. Almost worth it to do a full day. Again, everything can be charged to the room while there. We ventured off the resort 4 separate times and it wasn't a hassle. Just had to get a ride to the main lobby. Never had to wait more than 10 minutes to be picked up, so just add an extra 20-30 minutes to your timing. The walkways to and from locations are extremely beautiful and worth a stroll if you are up for some exercise. They do take masks seriously there, never once did I see a staff member not wearing one. These are required in lobby's, trolleys and main shopping area. Scheduling covid testing was done online to reserve a spot and actual testing was manageable. Need to show email reservation, have cash and passport when testing... and its not the brain scraper kind. Overall, it was a fun experience as we had 8 adults, two 7 year olds and a 10 year old. Not normally the kind of vacation we go for but it was worth it. The grounds are beautiful and always something new to see so long as you venture a little. They have an app you can download that provides maps, menus, happy hours and much more. Very convenient. Family vacation
I want to start by saying that this is the first time I ever write a negative review about anything. I don’t like to complain but I feel so many things went wrong with this resort I just had to say something. We arrived very early on a Saturday morning, so we knew our rooms would probably not be ready. When we did finally get our room it was not what we had expected. When we reserved we asked for a 2 bedroom with 1 king and the second room with 2 doubles, well it was a 2 bedroom but each room only had a king bed in each room. I have a family of 6 with me including my elderly mother with me. When we went back to reception they told us that all the 2 bedroom rooms at The Bliss where with king beds only expect for 1 location but that was taken by other guests. Needless to say we were very upset that was not what we paid for or expected!!! The service at the pool was very slow when ordering food or drinks, also the first night out air conditioning made very loud noises and I reported it and was told that nothing was wrong with it. After 3 nights not being able to sleep well I recorded the noise and played it to the maintenance man and he new exactly what it was and fixed it. The sliding door in one of the bedrooms didn’t lock so had to have that fixed also. The bracelets to open the bedroom doors had to be often reprogrammed because they wouldn’t work! At check out the bell boy was on time picked up our luggage at 1pm said it was going straight to the central lobby. When we get there about 30 mins later our luggage is not there. Or shuttle was to arrive at 2pm to take us to airport but arrives 10 mins early which was great but our luggage doesn’t arrive until 2:15pm. 1 hour and 15 mins after leaving our room!!! So we left 30 mins late to the airport. So disappointed with this resort! I had high expectations as I had been to the Vidanta Resort in Nuevo Vallarta and it was incredible! When we spoke to the supervisor Laura about our complaints all she said was there was nothing she could do. You would think they would treat there customers better!
